Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Gracepoint is probably my favorite of the new shows I'm watching. Like Walking Dead, it's one of the ones that i must watch as soon as possible the next day after DVR'ing.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

I've been watching it. I like it. Don't love it. But I'm intrigued and want to see what happened. I'm a few weeks behind, though, so don't ruin it for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

The dividing line with Gracepoint seems to be if you watched Broadchurch or not. Largely that seems to be because Anna Gunn can't play Ellie, she can only play the same Dour Anna Gunn she plays in every role.

Quite the odd little episode of Sons.

Quite a few bad scenes being given to really good actors, especially Kim Coates and Walton Goggins.

Edit: I should add that it's nice to see the other shoe drop on Sons. It typically makes the dancing around worthwhile.

Just watched Sons. Best episode of the series, IMO. I've ripped on the show quite a bit, but this episode was wonderfully written and the acting was just about perfect. The 2 scenes at the end (Tig and Venus, Jax, Abel and Wendy) were acted perfectly, well, except for the kid, who is terrible.

I just started Sons and ****, I've got to quit watching this show during dinner.

I swear Abel is being played by a robot, and I don't think Sutter writes that part well at all. Overall a good episode, though.

That episode should be submitted to the Emmys for Kim Coates. One of the better performances for a supporting actor this season.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Abel's part is hard to write when the kid can't string two words together.

The Tig/Venus and especially the Jax/real mommy scenes were excellent. Think back to what Tig was like in S1....and now. His character has evolved greatly, IMO.

I did like Chib's little speech to Althea. That was pretty good.

And now the fun starts.

I should be more clear...not a huge fan of Abel's storyline either.

Those were the two best scenes of the episode. Very well done by everyone.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Last Week Tonight is done until February. :(

That was a bummer. It's basically the only source of international news on television, which is very, very sad in so many ways.

I guess there's always RT. ;)

BTW, AJE is about to run an investigatory report called "The Day Israel Attacked America" about the USS Liberty incident, which is sure to drive two groups of dependable American reactionaries into opposing fits of orgasmic bloodlust.

“The Day Israel Attacked America,” a 50 minute video produced by Al Jezeera, offers proof that Israel deliberately intended to destroy the Liberty. The video broadcasts for the first time ever audio exchanges in Hebrew between the pilots and ground control. At least three times, starting at 5:15 a.m, ground control is told the ship is American. By 2:00 pm, ground control commands the pilot to attack the ship. An argument ensues when the pilot reminds his superiors the ship is American. Ground control confirms the order and the pilot is forced to obey.

Through interviews with now elderly Liberty crewmen, Part I of the video covers what happened and how Israelis assuredly knew the ship was American. The crew point to the ship’s huge American flag visible “for miles.” One man described how earlier in the day an Israeli marked plane swooped low enough for he and the pilot to wave at one another, and he felt comfort that an ally was near. Several men explain that only an ally can know a ship’s frequencies. To a man, they are convinced that it was an intentional assault. If, as the Israelis claim, it was an accident, then, as one veteran put it, it was the best planned accident in history.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Catching up on a large backlog of shows on my DVR today. Finally saw the season opener of "The Newsroom." I saw a lot of chatter on Twitter about how they mispronounced Watertown. Then I saw it. I noticed while watching the show they used actual news footage from that day. So, to me that means they probably watched it, right? I'm assuming they reviewed as much of it as they could to write the script. And from all of that coverage they reviewed - again, making an assumption here - NO ONE heard the correct pronounciation of one to easiest to pronouce town in Massachusetts? I get that there are several names of cities and towns here that are not pronounced the way they are written, but seriously? Watertown? It's two words - Water and town. Figure it out!

That said - I did like it.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

How do you mispronounce Watertown? Woburn I get. Nahant I get. But Watertown?

I don't recall how they said it in the show, but there are places out there that pronounce "town" at the end of a city's name as "ton", to the point where Charleston and Charlestown would sound the same. I'm striking out to recall the exact town, however. It might even be an English town.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

They pronounced it Waterton. My beef is - a) it would be easy enough to confirm and b) as I mentioned, they seemed to have access to actual footage from the events that week and none of it ever pronounced Watertown incorrectly.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Perhaps it was done on purpose, to show how big city media outfits are often out of touch with the local scenes they cover, and pretend to know all about? Maybe next week, we'll have Will making an apology on air for mispronouncing the name.
