TV: One Person's Trash...

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

Got through another couple eps. The approach being taken, it's interesting. I like it. One point of the main plot was most likely inevitable, and they gave in, but that is probably a good thing. We'll see how it goes. The secondary characters are really being developed, which I truly enjoy. Some were established, but they are getting to the core of them, almost treating them as main characters, creating a true ensemble cast.

So a lot better than S2 I hope...

I liked S2. It blew up everything. This is the aftermath. Now, I don't know if they knew this was the last season on Net or not, that could have affected things, but they are getting down and dirty with the characters.

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

They were talking about this on The Current (MN Public Radio) the other day. The big question is "why? MTV no longer matters to anyone with a brain." I had to agree with that.

The time to do this would have been right after the original Daria went off the air. I kind of forgot MTV existed...

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

Ditto. I have to honestly ask, does MTV2 or VH1 even exist anymore?

MTV has been reduced to 6 hour blocks of that "Ridiculousness" show where a bunch of D-listers laugh at YouTube videos.

In other words, right up our alley.

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

Call me when they get a reboot of Clone High.

Whenever someone asks me to recommend a show that they haven't seen yet, this is my go-to.

Only one season, so it's not too much of a time sink, and it's worth it.

Jett on Cinemax S1E1. Interesting concept. You have to understand that you are jumping into the middle of the story. So, some things you have to take as fact you have to take on faith because they were true a long time ago. Pretty interesting. I think I'll keep watching.

Deadwood or "Ten Thousand Ways to Put the Words C###t, Mother[bleeper], $$$$sucker and Jew Slurs Into a Series and Be Beloved".

I am torn on this. Some of the performances are top notch (Ian McShane being a friggin God in the series) and the set design is perfection. The story itself though is kind of meandering and plotting at times and I feel they had no idea where they planned to go or how to get there until it was way too late. (ending on a rather blank note) Everybody is just mad at everyone all the time, or drunk and it became rather formulaic because nothing ever seemed to stick. Great for binging but would have been brutal watching in real time. That being said...

Deadwood: The Movie was excellent! Seeing the characters 10 years later was the perfect cap to the entire story. Because of the time jump a lot of the plotting stories were forced to resolve themselves (like for example Bullock and his wife...a storyline that was annoying as heck in the series) without dealing with like 3 more seasons of rhetoric and needless arguments. Now it isnt McShane who has to hold down the series but most of the characters have the gravitas needed to make the movie work. Timothy Olyphant is so much better as "Marshall Bullock" than he was as Sheriff it is crazy. Unlike many reunions that tend to be lame and needless, this was the finale the series needed. Plus seeing how many of the minor characters changed (plus some fun cameos if you look for them) made it fun as heck.

Deadwood the Series: B
Deadwood the Movie: A
Overall if you watch it as one long story: A- and worth the time.

The show that made curse words almost Shakespearian in the way they were used.

Yes, as you say, some of the story lines were rather ordinary or uncompelling, but the dialogue was the true MVP of that show.

The Good Fight - A+

Sad this was buried on CBS's streaming service. What a great TV Show. Nothing has replaced The Good Wife on TV and I dare say this show not only brought back the two best characters left on the show when it went off the air but it upped the ante considerably. Watched the first two episodes last night. Fantastic. I will find a way to catch up.

I was so excited when I saw that CBS was running this on the network. I wasn’t going to pay for the streaming service for one show. Recorded last night’s shows and will watch tonight.

Been watching Designated Survivor on Netflix the last couple of nights. I like it. Started watching Schitt’s Creek today. Heard it was funny. I’m enjoying it.

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

Finished Venture Bros. season 1. Man that was good. Now I just have to figure out where to find the others.

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

Schitt's Creek is very good. Took a bit to get going but man it is very unique :)

VB season 1 was fantastic. I don't remember the rest being that great though. Perhaps because they were the original users of the "Let's release a season when we feel like it" approach that seems all too common on HBO now.
