Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

How A Bunch Of Coincidences Led Me To Fall In Love With Your Mother So You Can Exist, But She Was Totally Just My Silver Medal Since I Always Had It For A Friend Who Went Through A Lot Of Personal Growth And Changes With One Of My Closest Friends That Evidently All Went Out The Window After Three Years Of What Was Evidently A Sham Marriage Shut Up I'm Not Selfish
I got a good laugh out of this but at the same time, I feel like Robin is the Silver Medal. He loved Tracy, and I'm he'd rather have her forever instead of Robin after a brief time with Tracy. Life isn't perfect, neither was this show. The reason it dragged on makes sense now, its because it was never about telling the kids how he met their mother, it was about asking them permission to move on from their Mother and date Robin.

I thought this was pretty good: http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/how-i-met-your-mother-last-forever-202887

The good news is that thanks to that **** show last night, they won't have to worry about writing a finale for How I Met Your Dad. Or even a fifth episode most likely.

Because we already know the end of How I met Your Dad...she meets Barney on night 31 and is the mother of Ellie ;)

That sounds about right to me. I liked the ending all things considered.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

The part I hated was that we as the audience didn't have 6 years to deal with the passing of the mother before moving on to Robin...

I didn't get that part either. They just moved on so quick. not even 30 seconds of plot about her and he was right back on Robin.

It appears that despite the fact that Ted called the conversation with his kids "How I Met Your Mother" that is not really what the conversation ended up being about. I base that conclusion on the kids reaction to the story at the end.

That was the finale in a nutshell: as the show went on, I thought that it actually did a really good job (at least with Ted, Barney and to a lesser extent Robin) of letting the characters grow and change. Then everything's just tossed aside, and perhaps it works with the characters (yeah, she was dead 6 years before Ted's kids wanted him to go after Robin, etc.), but it's all just a very jarring jolt aside from whatever it was the show was building up in the last few seasons.

Suddenly, Ted "letting go" of Robin on the beach means absolutely nothing to me.

Well that's obvious...the story isn't about how he met their mother, the story about asking his kids permission to move on from the love of his life that's been gone 6 years and give it another go with Robin...It makes way more sense now why he told the story this way doesn't it?

I wouldn't go that far about the beach scene. He did let go, he did move on, but now he's lost the love of his life and Robin is still there and alone. Neither of them needs to go through the rest of their years alone, so why not give it a shot?

Yeah, that's pretty much what I take from those moments of people declaring that they're done obsessing over another person only to have it turn around a while later. Some people have hang ups on others, no matter how much they don't want to either admit them or like them. They'll come and go, depending on where someone is in their life. They happen. Ted's has been Robin, yet he was able to walk away from her when she was getting married and even more so (completely?) when he met Tracy - the Mother.

Yep, makes total sense now.

I suppose I can buy that. Still irked at how the last few seasons were for naught when Barney and Robin rebooted partway into the finale, but the rest of it I can get.

Didn't like it. I understand that they had it planned well in advance and were stuck with what they had in mind, but that does nothing for me as a viewer.

One would think that it would've been prudent to film a bunch of different options with the kids, such that you weren't pigeonholed into something at the end.

Plus then you have an out in case one of the kids decides to breach his/her NDA.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Yep, makes total sense now.

It does make perfect sense as to why so much of the story didn't have the mother. But it still sucks. Having a hard time accepting how quickly they just dismissed the mother.
