Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

I love the character, but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to drop it. I know I would were I in his shoes.

I had read another report that he would be dropping it. I don't think it would play on a Letterman type show so can see why he'd have to lose it and to be honest, how long can you keep doing the same skit over and over - not that conservatives don't provide a daily stream of new material.

Hate to lose the Report and him in that character. It's such a great rip on Faux and other conservative blowhards.

I wonder how he'll do as a straight up entertainer. I've never found him to be all that engaging outside of the Colbert Report persona.

I thought Craig Ferguson had it written in his contract that he was the next in line. Does he not want the gig?

I have said elsewhere, I prefer if he remains in the 1230 slot because the censors have already gone to bed.

The next question: Who gets the 1130 slot on Comedy Central? The obvious choice would be Jon Oliver, but he's on HBO now. If they want to keep a Colbert-like persona on the air, John Hodgeman is a perfect choice. Another option would be Kristen Schaal, but does she want to be committed to four nights a week? She already has a show (Bob's Burgers) so it would be tight. I would love it if Lewis Black did it, but I doubt he'd do it (and tbh, his act would get tiresome). Just as long as they don't give it to fighting robots.

I think a lot of folks will be surprised. He knows how to deliver a slanted, cable-style interview to a tee, so I think he's more than capable of "interviewing"/joking with celebrities. :p

I think the real hope is that with a good writing team, he can maybe break the mold and inject some new and more creative life into Letterman and Leno's bland, predictable monologues. There's a young "Millennial" audience that is in love with the guy, just waiting to see what he will do. It's really a gamble by CBS - either he's great, or he's a flop.

And honestly, his O'Reilly parody was great for the first few years, but it's jumped the shark at this point.

I saw something about Lena Dunham claiming sexism and hoping for some diversity in CBS' pick. Guess they didn't listen.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Name someone that a) isn't a white male, b) would actually do it and c) is as good or better of a choice than Colbert.

What the Easily-Offended-On-Twitter will typically fail to realize is that those last two caveats actually matter, more so than the first.

Off the top of my head, I can only think of Tina Fey, unless Amy Poehler or Ellen Degeneres want to give up their current gigs or Chris Rock (or Dave Chappelle, for that matter) gets insanely bored.

The problem is that third part is subjective and will lead to answers like Wanda Sykes.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Yet the people complaining would still go to a taping with Colbert if they are able and the celebrities who complained will still show up for their interview when they are out doing the promotion rounds

Tina or Amy would have been the "daring" yet overall "safe" choice for females. Ellen is too network-y, given their current choice. Gotta go with someone who can capture the prime demographic. For female hosts? Tina and Amy are the wise choices.

How can you be too networky to be on a network? :p
