tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

Re: tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

Since UNO sold out EVERY home game they ever played (131 straight games) in an arena seating 8,314 before moving to what was then known as the Qwest Center (renamed the CenturyLink Center),you are likely going to be buying those tickets for games in the new arena on the secondary market since it is only going to seat 7,500 for hockey.

When the program started and UNO played those first 6 seasons in the Omaha Civic Auditorium and sold out all those games, they held back tickets for public sale, the other team, etc., every night. The number was, if I recall correctly, 1,925, as they capped season ticket sales at 6,389 (Source: from the UNO Press Guide).

Other team's fans (I am talking to you, North Dakota) that think they can continue to descend on us, en masse, in the future, have got another thing coming now.
Any idea what the season ticket base is? Below 4 or 5 k?
Called tUMD sweeping in St. Cloud on Halloween.

You are genius! Giving our history there I felt like we could get a win (we were due) but I wasn't going to call it.

How cute... a omaha fan thinking that a smaller rink will keep out the NoDak crowd. You're kind of new to this college hockey thing, eh?

It is widely believed (myself included) that it is currently just below 4,000. It was (supposedly) still over 5,000 as recently as the 2012-2013 season. I don't know if anybody really knows for sure outside of the Athletic Office.

This is tough one to nail down because the school never says and has not, as near as I know, since we moved into what is now the CenturyLink Center (nee The Qwest Center).

I just did a detailed search on the Mavpuck board about this and found a few people asking this question, but little postulating about the actual number.

In a monster building, there is no real need to have them. Season before last, because my wife wanted to take a year off from working, I did not renew for financial reasons but still went to many games.

I was able to buy "my" seats in every instance but once and, for that game, I was actually easily able to buy tickets in the club section--better seats than "mine" are, even.

I personally believe the school is going to cap season tickets at some number unless the demand is overwhelming. That might occur, anyway, because we are playing in a new building and it could also plausibly happen if the team's fortunes on the ice, so far, continue as they have started out this season.

There is going to be a 750 seat student section and there will be a 750 seat club section. That is all we know for sure so far.

Unless the school prices tickets out of range of the current season ticket holder fanbase (a big concern since no pricing for ANYTHING has yet been announced and we KNOW they are going to go up, probably pretty significantly) then I would expect UNO to sell out every game they play in the new arena next season and start a new string of sellouts. How long that might last is anybody's guess. UNO just brought in what was easily the best class in school history, by a ton, and next year's class (5 players) has at least 3 guys in it (Duluth's own, Phil Beaulieu, Steve Spinner, and Fredrik Olofsson) that are the equal of anybody in this year's (on paper, of course). We might be selling out games for some time, again, even if prices do rise substantially, if the team's fortunes of war are good enough--on top of the novelty of a new building.

My guess is that, no matter what, tickets will be harder to get, and, pricier.

Oh, I am sure some will still manage to get themselves a seat in our new building (like we in theirs) but it will never again be like, for example, the night of 2-8-13 (the Friday night before UNO and North Dakota's Saturday outdoor game) where North Dakota had upwards of 3,500 (highly intoxicated) fans in the CenturyLink Center of the total announced crowd of 9,487 for that game.

How do you suppose Nodak fans find a way to get 1500 fans into a supposed sold out mariucci? All I'm saying is if you think only 100 Nodak fans will be at your neato new arena you are going to be disappointed.

I'll be interested in seeing just how successful they are. It'll be wholly dependent on how many seats are made available for each game to the other team and, to what extent UNO fans sell them on the secondary market that end up in North Dakota fan's hands. FYI, I'd give my tickets to a customer, or something, if I couldn't go, before I'd let them get into the hands of "the enemy".

The only schools that have ever had a (consistent) significant opposing team fan's presence in our building, anyway, are North Dakota, and, bizarrely, Bemidji State, of all things. North Dakota has played us 6 times here in Omaha, with those 6 games averaging 9,405 people per game, much of the "padding" of the attendance courtesy of North Dakota fan.

I'm sure that if they can find a way, they'll get in. But, it's gonna be far tougher and more expensive, I bet.

Congrats on the sweep, tDogs. See you this weekend.

Who is going to be in Duluth?

I'll be there...but I think I'll just go home after game.

Re: tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

Team is on a roll! winners of five in a row with some of their best games played. Sweeping in SCSU for the first time in 15 years and sweeping UMTC for the first time in 5. It's good to be a Bulldog.

Now let's hope there is no let down against UNO. Our last six games before the break are UNO, CC and MTU. You'd hope they'd be able to go 4-2 in that stretch. Anything better is gravy. Hopefully split with UNO and MTU (UNO is the most sweepable I think) and CC is must sweep.

Re: tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

While dining at London Road Bwoods last night, saw a large group of young men stream in and head back to private room. After figuring they were too short to be BB players, we asked our waitress and she revealed their affliation: CC Tigers.

Had to restrain from heading back and throwing a GO BULLDOGS!! down on them....

Should be a good series and anything less than a sweep for tUMD would be a fail. Little worried about CC frosh goalier Chase Perry, a Red Wing draft pick. He is from Andover so maybe CAL DECOWSKI will have some intel on him.

That place always seems to have hockey teams before games. This series is an absolute must sweep. Anything less than 6 points will be embarrassing

Re: tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

Great OT win for tUMD. I was at game and tDawgs started very slowly offensively and Kas let in a soft second goal...too far back in net and backhander from RW rush leaked through. tUMD did not start to get going offensively until lines were shufffled about halfway through the game. Krause was reunited with Toninoto and Iafallo and they clicked right away. tUMD started throw more shots on net and that led to their goals in regulation. Tying and winning goals were both due to determination at the net and beating CC to loose rebounds.

Job halfway done for weekend.

That was a very nice win for UMD. Half the game was basically them shaking off the rust from the bye weekend. They looked out of sorts. You could tell in the second half of the third period they had found their mojo and were clicking. Thank god they won that game because that would have been embarrassing (for a while it looked like it was going to be the second most embarrassing game of the weekend if that LSSU-UND score had held). It was cool to see them so jacked up after the GTG and of course with the GWG OT goal. What a fantastic win and I'd imagine they'd get it done tonight.

Re: tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

Anyone else find it odd Kaskisuo was pulled when Sandelin hadn't done it before when they were down? The paper said it was a combination of sending a message and unhappiness with the second goal.

Also, anyone else cringe as much as I do when opposing announcers call them the "Duluth Bulldogs"??? Is this the "Omaha" effect? Or a holdover from those awful "Duluth" jerseys?
