tUMD @ BSU: (10-29/10-30)

Re: tUMD @ BSU: (10-29/10-30)

A friend of mine called the ticket office yesterday and was told there were "a lot" of tickets remaining for this weekend. He bought seats 14 rows up on the red line. After fees each ticket came to $42! He said it'll be his first and last trip to Sanford Center. That is outrageous.

I am pretty ******ed off about the ticket prices, too. If the arena was so expensive that they need to charge ridiculous prices like that, then perhaps they shouldn't have built it. I am still going because I have a free place to stay and I'm only going one night, but that's sick. These tickets are more than any school other than UND or UMTC, and Bemidji isn't anywhere near their league. Definitely will not be going there again.

Re: tUMD @ BSU: (10-29/10-30)

FYI, folks should pay attention when buying tickets, and rather than selecting "Any Price," pick what you want. Now, the student tickets at $9.55 ($5 + 4.55 fee) aren't available, but those $42 tickets weren't his only option - he could have paid $5 less for sitting in the corners or ends or even $10 per ticket less by selecting the family section (no alcohol)...

Sorry, but $32 is still too much.

Re: tUMD @ BSU: (10-29/10-30)

Drive to Bemidji and buy at the box office then - that saves you the $7 fees, and it's just $25 (or $20 for UAA, CC, NMU and UNO) :p

It seems all teams are inflating prices for tier 1 and tier 2 rivals. They'll keep doing it as long as they keep cashing in. I think there's still 400 or so seats for Friday, so maybe they're not cashing in . . . and need to reduce prices by $5-10?

That is what most WCHA teams are doing, breaking the teams into tiers, and in Bemidji, they have three (Gophers, the Minnesota Schools, and the rest, wonder where Wisco would have fit in if they came to Bemidji, probably tier 1). If UND would have had tickets available, I do believe they would have been in the Gopher series tier.

To me, I do feel that they are probably too high, especially with ~1200 seats available for the weekend. Like Moose, it is a little concerning that this will be the second series in the Sanford Center and it will probably not be a sell out.

And Runninwiththedogs, if you are p***ed with the Sanford Center ticket prices and I am a season ticket holder, can I be p***ed about Amsoil's ticket prices, even though you are a season ticket holder. I mean, it is not like the Dogs are Minnesota or North Dakota. :p:D

My .02 worth is that I also think the prices are too high for Bemidji. It is what it is though. A new arena and a new conference come with a price.

By not selling out this weekend it is evident that there is something going on. Big picture - if the team struggles this season and next season or the season after that and so forth then there are going to be issues. Big issues. Less and less people are going to want to spend that kind of money on it. It might be a stretch but look at what losing has done to the Gopher base at Mariucci or TCF Bank Stadium for that matter. The cure? Just win baby! Winning cures many ailments.

BSU sweeps the pups from Duluth! But thanks for playing and a big thank you to the UMD fans for spending the money to see the azz kicking :D

Here's a link to Sports In The Round 10/27 podcast. I believe there's an interview with UMD's Sandy along with BSU coaches and some info on the BREC's merchandise store, the Beaver Dam. However, the podcast hasn't been updated on their website (as of 9:15) . . .

IMHO, there will be a few bumpy stretches for Beaver hockey over the next two years (2011-12 and 2012-13) until they get on par with other WCHA school's recruiting. It had to have been a challenge to get quality recruits a few years ago with the conference, barn and program in doubt. So I think the next two years will reflect that.

It will be interesting to see the amount of "loyal/traditional hockey fans vs. bandwagon/going to check out the BREC fans" over the course.

Does Bemidji have a large section of season ticket holders from the Twin Cities or are most from right around Bemidji or do they pull from somewhere else? I ask because isn't it going to be tough to maintain ticket sales especially at that price with such a small population center? For comparison Michigan Tech's tickets are $16.

As visiting fans, I can see us blowing $400 on a hockey weekend in the Twin Cities, Madison or Omaha or even Duluth for that matter if we stay in Canal Park and/or go skiing but not Bemidji, no offense. That being said, it's not the prices keeping me away this weekend - **** work!

Aww that is cute. Remember this is the WCHA, not the CHA. And we are not Robert Morris. :)

UMD will keep their 5 goals a game average this weekend.

Somebody said they wanted a shirt. Somebody else realized that their daughter has a horsey problem and would sooner or later have to put his daughter thru college a teachers salary. ;)

At least they don't force you to buy a ticket to a meaningless game against Union along with the ticket you actually want. St. Cloud did this 1 or 2 (can't remember) years ago if you wanted to buy Gopher tickets. Bumped the ticket price +$10......pretty lame.

Re: tUMD @ BSU: (10-29/10-30)

I don't know what he is smoking and I watched them when they beat St. Cloud and both teams looked like garbage. Missing open shots and no chemistry out there or at least thats how my roommate and I felt watching it.
I think garbage is a little harsh. Friday night was garbage by the Gophers obviously. The Gophers cleaned up the defense on Sunday, but they started giving away some better chances at the end of that game. Cloud started to get to them a little. Without good goaltending, Cloud could have easily scored 2 or 3 more goals. I wouldn't exactly call that garbage, but I would definitely say it was not stellar hockey.

What's the difference? You paid $40 either way. :)

?? The Gopher tickets were $30. The Union ticket added $10 to the price.....

For the record, I can understand why schools would do this, but with the poeple in this thread complaining about tickets, it could be worse.

Well I guess that might be harsh but its hard not to call it garbage hockey when you just get done watching the bulldogs for a weekend. haha but we will see there is a lot of talent on the gophers but that doesn't mean chemistry which equals wins.

Re: tUMD @ BSU: (10-29/10-30)

And I haven't paid to attend a game since I was in college, what's your point?

==> perks of the job...

Silly, I was just saying I wasn't going to have to complain about UMD's prices at AMSoil arena.

To me, I do feel that they are probably too high, especially with ~1200 seats available for the weekend. Like Moose, it is a little concerning that this will be the second series in the Sanford Center and it will probably not be a sell out.

Well, yes, my point was I'm personally not going to be bothered by the prices at AMSoil Arena, and Moose was telling me to be ready for a price hike. However, if prices are too high and single-game sales are poor, I'll be ****ed too.

I would point out that not only is this the second series at the new arena for y'alls, it's also the first game non-STHs had an opportunity to attend. IIRC, there were no single-game sales for the first series?
