Tuesday scores, updates, ego, and what the heck is a blugold?

Re: Tuesday scores, updates, ego, and what the heck is a blugold?

3-0 Hamline end 2. Eau Claire took a hitting from behind major which Hamline turned into their third goal.

Despite dominating the first 10 minutes of the game, the blugolds haven't been able to get anything going offensively.

The pipers first goal was the result of a broken 3x2 where the goalie slid way over to cover one side and the puck found a guy om the backdoor.

Re: Tuesday scores, updates, ego, and what the heck is a blugold?

That should be the ballgame.

4-0 Hamline on a breakaway, 12:49 of the third

Re: Tuesday scores, updates, ego, and what the heck is a blugold?

Hamline scores their 5th goal of the game with2.2 seconds left, with a defenseman knocking it in.

Unfortunately it was into his own net. 4-1 Hamline is your final from drake arena.

Haha, he'll never hear the end of it from his goalie("The Pipe Show").... "thanks jerk, ruin my shutout with 2.2 seconds left."

1) pioneers#1 how did you get the babson-umd score?

2) since you got it, how about us get/post the final for us please? :p

3) No, really. What the heck is a blugold? And I don't want to hear about some flower unless it's in their logo or school symbol somewhere.

Edit: thanks Joe!

Helps out themselves for pool c, and helps with common opponents for anyone that beats umd (hi Salem!) All the mascac teams should be rooting for babson the rest of the year now :p

Couple of nice wins tonight by Curry & UMass-Dartmouth. Shows that the old leaders of the now broken-up ECAC NE league can still play good hockey against solid foes.

blugold literally means nothing...

http://media.www.spectatornews.com/...ws/History.Of.The.Blugold-2898252-page2.shtml

and this from wikipedia:

"The mascot is the "Eau Claire Blugold", a name coined to reflect the school colors (navy blue and old gold). Previous mascot and athletic team names include the Normals, the Normalites (because UWEC was founded as Eau Claire State Normal School), the Blue and Gold Warriors, the Blue and Gold Gridirons, the Zornmen (in honor of Willis L. "Bill" Zorn, basketball and football coach from 1928-1968), the Golden Tornadoes, the Zornadoes, the Golden Zornadoes, the Blue and Gold Squad, the Bluegold Squad, and the Bluegolds. There is no evidence in the Periscope yearbooks of a bulldog mascot prior to 1940.[3] Further research may uncover some evidence of the reported "Eau Claire Bulldogs," an anagram of Blugolds. The actual meaning of the mascot has been debated for some time.[4]"

Moral of the story, Eau Claire sports are so bad that they dont care about what their mascot is.

And Potsdam used their freshman goaltender, Adam Groulx, for the first time.

This could make things interesting since Trevor O'Neill has been playing very well this year.

Groulx was excellent, but the whole team came to play. Even with a significant difference in PP opportunities, the better team won.

Actually Fritz it's the best name around because we're not so narrow sighted or limited in thought that we can be what we want to be on any given night. Unlike everyone else that just gets to be a Devil, Saint, Pointer, Night, Falcon, Yellow Jacket, or whatever else their school limits them to be we can be a Wild Card of sorts depending on who we’re playing.
Best part is listening to original chants like "What's a Blugold?" (Stout's favorite) or “Pick a color”. Also It's hard to hang a Blugold when you don't know what one is (you’d have to have been to a Blugold / Stout game to understand the reference). Instead the Stout student section hangs question marks and the last time I checked question marks don’t need oxygen to survive. It’s like looking at a confused student section with a lot of questions for 60 minutes. But I guess that’s the best Wisconsin’s “polytech”school can come up with.
As far as Eau Claire, I agree the season hasn’t started out the greatest for the Blugolds (BTW looking at the stat sheet 7 regulars are out of the lineup because of injury the last three games), but the last time I checked they don’t hand out the hardware for a few more months, (just ask Neumann) the Blugolds will be just fine.

The Origin of the Blugold

by Lark Keating-Hadlock, hadlocca@uwec.edu
Throughout the history of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the question has been asked, “What is a Blugold?” Over the years, many have speculated on the origin of the Blugold. Research shows that the term simply evolved from the phrase “the Blue and Gold.” The first use of the term “Blugolds” occurred in the fall of 1935 when the student newspaper reported that the Blugolds defeated the Winona Teachers College football team.1 The author of the Spectator article shortened the combination of the school’s colors into a single word, much as we currently introduce new words into our lexicon (e.g., “upped” for “increased”), and the term “Blugold” stuck! When the Eau Claire State Normal School was founded in the fall of 1916, the student body had already chosen the school colors of blue and gold. The first references to the school basketball team labeled the team as the Eau Claire Normals. Eau Claire had eight sister normal schools at that time. The northern section of the basketball conference was called the Normal Conference, which included Stevens Point Normal, Oshkosh Normal, Superior Normal, River Falls Normal, Platteville Normal, Whitewater Normal, Stout Normal, La Crosse Normal, and Milwaukee Normal. These schools, along with the Madison, Green Bay, and Parkside campuses and 13 two-year colleges, comprise our current University of Wisconsin System. A name to differentiate the Eau Claire Normals athletic teams from the other Normals teams was desired.

So you mean you're even confused about what your mascot is. Good to know.

I have been to many of these games and frankly if you don't even know what your mascot is how are we supposed to? School spirit my ***, you guys just got stuck behind the 8 ball not knowing what to say when people questioned your choice in a mascot.

Poor poor Fritz, you just don’t seem to have the ability or depth to understand. I’m not confused or limited by just one mascot like you are. Blugold's can show up ready for a Toga and that will be our mascot for the night, either way we win. Quit trying to understand you’ve already proven you can’t.

BTW... if you head over to Eau Claire today the Blugolds are Pilgrims so dress appropriately.
