Re: TRP: Summer, come now!

I heard while heading down the hill on I-35 towards Duluth. I knew it was big news when ESPN Radio had an in game update on it. I got tingles and cheered when I heard the news. Definitely where you were moment.

I need to dust off the cobwebs of 9/11

Re: TRP: Summer, come now!

Needed to quote this from checkbook boy.

Hey hey hey. Besides the whole check thing, I've been knowledgable about technology (especially electronics) for quite some time. Doesn't mean I'm still amazed by how fast it advances, or how it works. Sure, I've *ed up sometimes (anyone remember mini-discs? Yep, I had an MD Player. And CD-R players/recorders? Yep, had one of those, too).

Just saying that the internet, especially social networking sites have driven the news and reported the news just as well as regular news sites. Due to the mass amount of legit news sites, most can't keep tabs on all of them, and the news is funneled into a couple of the larger social networking sites, because of certain people following certain sites, and relaying information.

Did you think that the smart phone was a fad just like your mini disk player? ;)

No. I don't want a mini-computer. I have a computer. I just want a phone that makes/takes calls. It's why it's called a "phone." :p

Re: TRP: Summer, come now!

So they're saying that the killing of Osama is a "where you were" moment, that you'll always remember where you were, and can tell your kids about it. I heard of it via text message, while in bed with a girl I met at Toby Keith's the night before. This is going to be an awkward story, if I ever end up having kids. :p

Maybe it'll be "your mom and I were busy making you." Didja ever think of that? Huh?:p

For some people, maybe, but I just don't see this as a culture/nation changing event as compared to Pearl Harbor, the JFK assassination, or 9/11. While a significant event that goes down in the history books that will be remembered, I'm not sure that it is of the same impact level long term.

goldy: apparently you've never actually meet bb_dl

I have, but don't claim to know him well. Are you saying that he couldn't knock her up on the first try or that he would never acknowledge the offspring were they to result?

My guess is that he's implying that I never would have thought of it, as in, I didn't think of the consequences. :p

For the record, my smart phone gets great reception, because I bought a phone made by a company that makes phones, not an mp3 player modified to make phone calls. I will never go back, that thing is simply way to convenient to have around.

Re: TRP: Summer, come now!

BTW, I need to find a common friend of ours on FB, or you need to add me. Too many people have your name, like you said.
Wait, SOH is on Facebook? I looked for him after he hung with my crew at the FF but I couldn't find him.

Hey, let me ask a stupid question: how do I break in a baseball glove? I know this is something I probably should know already, but I haven't had a new one in like 25 years and I forgot.

Re: TRP: Summer, come now!

Yeah my name is too insanely generic. Especially for this area of the country. You find roughly eleventy billion of it.

Put a ball in the webbing, rubber band it up, a put it under something heavy (a couch, mattress, etc). Take it out once a day, take out the ball and work the mitt with your hands a bit, repeat until acceptable.

Run it over with a truck about 100 times.

Re: TRP: Summer, come now!

Both collegehcky and bbdl are right. If you want to go high-tech, there's some sort of oil you can buy to soften it up. I've only owned two gloves in about 30 years of baseball/softball, since once you love a glove and have it broken in, it's hard to switch. My second glove is one I bought in Jr High School, and is also the one I retired from softball with. That glove was awesome.

While you can't replicate aging (aka breaking it in) you can get a head start with all those methods.

Get some glove oil - traditional or the newer foam variety. Work it into the palm and webbing of the mitt, and work the mitt open and close with your hands. Put the mitt on, toss a ball into it to simulate a catch during the process, too. When you're not actively working it, put a ball in it, and tie it shut either by wrapping it with string, show lace (my preference) or a strong rubber band. I never bothered with any extra weight and my mitts all broke in within a couple weeks, and I never really bought the top grade leather either.

The main reason I don't want a smart phone is because data plans are expensive. I'm quite happy with my $35 a month shared family plan and my "dumb" phone.

Interestingly, this makes me a viable candidate for a wifi iPad. My laptop isn't very travel friendly and I don't want a smart phone.

I'm of the same thinking. I'm perfectly happy with my dumb phone and iPod Touch.
