TRP: More metal than your mother

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

Both of my parents are folk music and classic rock fans. I am talking like the 60's era. My dad has lately been listening to some crappy station that plays hits from the 70's, 80's, 90's and today.

Talking about classical music, as most of you know my husband has a degree in music and is getting his master's. It is hilarious watching him drive down the street wearing a Black Sabbath shirt and classical music blaring from the car. It makes more sense when he is wearing one of his many Rush shirts.

It can't be that crappy if its playing songs from 4 decades. They must play something good with that much to choose from. :D

That's pretty much my parents, add some classical in there.

A couple years ago my brother took one of my dad's old garage band records and got it put on cd. So now I can listen to the 'Jades' my dad's high school garage band from the 60's. It's easy to tell what kind of music my dad likes based on what he wrote. That and I believe he has nearly every Beatles record in both mono and stereo.

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

My dad liked some good music before he got all churched up. He still likes (well, loves) Sinatra, though, so that's something. And, he plays the crappy electronic stuff I write in his store.

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

Growing up we were never sure what was going to be on the stereo. Mom liked rock and classical, so she might be listening to Dire Straits, Queen, the Trout Quintet or Andres Segovia. Which might explain why my iPod has both Metallica and Mozart on it.

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

I must admit, given the end of the last TRP, I wondered what was coming next when I saw "TRP: More metal than".........

Dad has listened to country for at least 35 years. Mom is into the soft rock and easy listening crap.

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

My mother is one of those people that doesn't listen to much music. Her favorite band in The Moody Blues, because one of their songs (Nights In White Satin) was my parent's first dance at their wedding.

As for my father, I will simply write what his response was to my asking if he ever smoked pot. "I really like Deep Purple and Pink Floyd."

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

Dad loves the electric guitar, so he listens to a lot of Santana (he lived in Mexico for 4 years, which probably influenced it) and Hendrix. Also loves Pink Floyd and The Who. He also really was into jazz in college and has a lot of jazz vinyl.

Mom has varied tastes, but I'd say Barenaked Ladies are her favorite. We listened to a lot of Sting and Van Morrison when in the car with her. She kind of likes the Foo Fighters, some Rolling Stones, and I think she'd like some Pearl Jam.

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

My Mom listens to hip-hop, it's pretty amusing. 62-year-old Jewish woman from the suburbs talking about Diddy and Fitty and Rihanna and all that.

Dad likes classic rock, Santana and the Allman Brothers and Hendrix (he was at Woodstock but had left before Hendrix performed) and all that stuff.

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

I don't think my dad could even name a genre of music, much less an actual band. To him it is all noise. He listens to sports talk, except for at noon, because that is when the farm report is on.

My mom listens to crap. Its like folk music or church music or...I really don't know what it is, except it is so ****ty that the soft-rock/adult alternative radio station probably won't even play it.
