TRP: Hell Greyhound Bus Ride

Re: TRP: Hell Greyhound Bus Ride

You shop like my mom did until I took away her keys.
I don't have a car - so I use zipcar once a month and go shopping. I got a little more carried away than usual. Of course, my financial circumstances are going to change at the end of Dec., so it might not be a bad idea to stockpile.

I'm more curious (and afraid) of who here sent this text:

(812): A female Wisconsin fan just headbutted the bouncer. Im deeply terrified and oddly aroused at the same time.

I saw that, but wasn't sure if they meant hockey or football...

Re: TRP: Hell Greyhound Bus Ride

I apparently thought that armageddon was coming when I went shopping tonight: 2 pork loins, 2 family sized packages of chicken, 1 package of ground turkey, 2 packages of stew meat, family pack (20) of Italian sausage, several bags of corn and peas, plus pasta, orzo, rice, etc.

I live alone. :o

Well, I've identified part of your problem

That's okay. The first time I went grocery shopping on my own I dropped about $135 at the store....and then went back and blew another $100 the next week and needed most of what I got the 2nd time around. And only one case of beer and no liquor was purchased at the time.

I do that, too, but mostly because I don't go shopping until I've exhausted all food I have. :o

And today I had a moment where I couldn't have been more proud at work. I was at our offsite location, so a co-worker (been there about 4-5 years, former Bible school student, a school that belongs in "Footloose" with their beliefs) was working the trucking area. After my offsite stint, I head back to the main building. I immediately get sent over to the trucking area, because it was chaos.

My co-worker's first words? "I never want to work in this area again, I feel like killing myself." Yes, kids, he had his first "HEY PAUL!!!!!" (c) American Psycho moment. My smile was wider than the Mississippi is long. :D Finally, he knew what those of us who worked in that area knew.

And for the record, on the area's workbench, in permanent marker, 3 phrases are written, one for each level of insanity:

"HEY PAUL!!!" (level one)
"Heeeerrrrrrrre's JOHNNY!" (Shining, level two)
"Hiiiiiii Jokerrrrrr........" (Full Metal Jacket, level three; and rare to see)

Re: TRP: Hell Greyhound Bus Ride

Yeah, but I was doing that on a weekly basis, and going out for lunch at the office.

That's sick.

Reminds me, though. I have to do a "topoff" on groceries this week (milk, juice, etc etc).

Re: TRP: Hell Greyhound Bus Ride

After a month or so of that I had a stacked freezer and stuffed cupboards. Now my grocery bills run anywhere between $25-45/week.

I usually go the $60 one week, $20 the next (stock, then top off/refill perishable/heavily used stuff), skip a week.

Example: right now, freezer/cupboard is full, since I went shopping on Fri. This week is the topoff. Then I'm probably good for a week. Repeat the cycle.

I just can't do the weekly meal planning. A) Never know what I'll be in the mood for, and B) due to my work schedule (which means late dinners, and no, I haven't adjusted to that yet, even after 8 years) it depends if I want to take the time for a quick meal or a balls-out prep/cook/etc meal. Basically, pasta vs. the full meat/veggies meal.

I prefer meals with short prep time/longer cook time. This allows for cocktail hour before dinner.:D

When the crock pot gets busted out around noon on Saturday, cocktail hour can get awfully interesting....

That is one thing I do need, is a crockpot. My frying pan is slowly dying :( so maybe I'll make it a one-trip shopping experience.

The crock pot is all that is good and holy with lazy cooking. You don't have to be skilled to throw sh*t in a pot, turn it on, drink a 12er and dig in.

Personal Fav: Venison chops, 1 cup of water, 1/4 cup of soy sauce, couple of garlic cloves, salt, fresh cracked pepper (lots), red 'tatoes, carrots, onions, oregano, couple of bay leaves. Let slow cook for 6-8 hours. Drink heavily*. Enjoy.

* This may be the key as to why this meal is ALWAYS SO D*MNED GOOD.:D

Edit: Crock pots are cheap. You can pick up a really nice one for less than $40.

For a good appetizer/etc:

1 block Velveeta (cubed)
2 lbs ground beef
1 decent sized jar of salsa
a good dose of chili powder
other seasonings/additions to taste (jalapenos, beans, pepper, etc)

Slow cook for an hour or two.

Dip chip in concoction. Repeat. Enjoy.

So *ing good.

Edit: I know they are cheap. It's a matter of finding the motivation to go to Target and get it, since the Targets/stores by my place are always mob-ridden with soccermoms (that are not cougars).

You go to the wrong Targets, my friend. :p Up by Nathan and myself... ding.

The one in Crystal always had decent cougars, but that's a friggin' long way away. :o

Maybe on my next day off I'll go get one. I'll be dammed if I'm hitting ANY Target on a weekend. I'd rather have MNS give me the brick look for 20 hours straight.

FYP.:D

I drop the wife off at the door at Target and wait outside. I hate going in there.

:D Thought about the bacon just after I posted.

Dammit, now I'm hungry.

Oooo, I should pick up some provolone and pico de gallo tomorrow and make GNC burgers. I could go for one, and it's been a while since I've had one. :(

I dumped a chopped red onion, a half green pepper, a jalapeno, a cup of Carribean Jerk marinade, seasoning salt, soy sauce, cracked pepper in with 2 lbs of ground beef and made patties....then let 'em sit for a day and a half.

Topped with black pepper bacon and pepper jack cheese......heaven on a bun. Probably took a couple months off of my life, but well worth it.

Edit: Also topped with Sandwich Pal Horseradish Sauce. Excellent sh*t.

We should probably have this on the USCHO Cooks thread, eh?

Nah.....screw 'em for not taking part in the other threads.:D

Sounds similar to the GNC burgers:

Dump enough beef into a bowl to make 1lb patties.
Add steak seasoning
Drain some pico de gallo and add that in
add 1 egg for every 1.5 lbs of beef (keeps the beef together when cooking)
Mix that * together really good

for toppings:

fry up 1 onion (if wanted, which we did, also have some raw onion, cut in onion ring form)
provolone cheese
bacon

When (preferably grilling) the burgers, add the bacon, then the fried/raw onions on top when burgers are just about done. Then top off with the cheese. Due to the size of the slices we had (Rainbow Foods has ginormous slices at the deli), the cheese evelopes the burger around the bottom edges.

Place on Kaiser bun. Hope mouth is big enough to take a bite of said burger. Don't plan on moving for a bit.
