Also, my personal favorite (I learned this from House :D )

I don't remember those. I just remembered the information instead of the stupid sayings.

The one I like using is on your knuckles:

Starting with the far left is January. The knuckles represent 31 days, in-between knuckles is 30 (or 28/29). Once you get to the right, start back on the left.

Re: TRP: Changing Conferences Since 1999

Still does not answer my question. WHY are you putting parentheses around 5 + 5 + 5? What prompts you to do that?

Think of it like putting dashed lines on the road. A two-lane highway COULD work just fine without lines. But it's easier to do it with the lines. The only reason I added the parentheses are to help navigate the equation like a two-lane highway. The parentheses are meaningless placed elsewhere. But because I understand how to navigate the equation without the lines, I can add the lines in the correct places to guide those who don't know how.

To take this further:
Multiplication and division are always done first to adjacent numbers, from left to right. Order matters for division. 4/2 = 2 and 2/4=0.5 Order does NOT matter for multiplication: 2*4=8 and 4*2=8

Once the multiplication and division are done, then you can add and subtract.

Like division, subtraction matters. 4-5 = -1 and 5-4 = 1. Whereas in addition, order does not matter. 4+5=9 and 5+4=9

I hope none of this comes off as condescending. I'm just trying to untangle the mess.

I'm just curious if you guys could identify the predicate in a given sentence. Then identify what a past participle is. Or identify what is grammatically improper in the preceding sentence and rewrite it properly. Or any of the other things we learned in second grade English.

Re: TRP: Changing Conferences Since 1999

5th? Oh yeah, you were probably home-schooled. I learned it in 1st or 2nd grade.
Why would you learn the order of operations when you're still learning basic addition and subtraction. I learned PEMDAS in 5th or 6th grade...when we started pre-algebra.
