Re: TRP: Blizzards, Bacon, and Beer

This all sounds so terrible. Remind me not to eat with you guys if I attend the F5 this year. :p

You know you want this:

Yes indeedy. And I bet if you used maple bacon with a maple donut, it might be that much better.

I'd pair Applewood bacon with a regular glazed, maybe with some apple chunks on top. That'd be awesome too.

I think we found our F5 food test this year. We've done regular bacon-wrapped donut holes, but I think we should expand on that concept.
This would be a good idea. Who knows how to make donuts? :)

I like this idea too. Better yet - apple fritters, topped with thin-sliced bacon and a maple glaze over that.

The fritters is what my second idea was based on, but I like your combo.

MNS: there's a bakery next to the Domino's by my place. Mom-n-Pop shop. I'll check their hours this week.

Dammit, now I'm going to give this some serious thought. :o I wonder if they could do something like an onion ring, except with a raised doughnut surrounding a ring of bacon? The simplest idea would probably just be an open-topped yeast doughnut with a center filling of maple and (real) bacon bits, but I know we could do better. Your apple/bacon combo sounds great too, and a double-smoked bacon/molasses combo has possibilities... sort of a barbecue thing.

And yes, I know bacon is passe by now. It's still pretty awesome. :D

All of this talk has me thinking about the block of peppercorned bacon I have in the freezer. It might be time to have a real breakfast this coming weekend - eggs, that bacon, and, I don't know, either some toast or genuine immitation Eggo waffles.

There are a couple things I keep in mind with bacon:

1. I don't go to any bacon sites.
2. I don't care if bacon is "passe."
3. Anything is a possibility.

The big one is #1, as I would rather think that we thought of it, rather than reading about it somewhere else. Example: I'm sure someone thought of bacon-wrapped bacon before us, but since we didn't hear about it, it's ours. ;)

I like our "tradition" of a required bacon serving each day of a hockey event, and on special events (like the F5 and F4) I would prefer a new concoction, even if it turns out to be a failure (like the bacon-wrapped powdered donut).

Finally, next time any one of you go grocery shopping, no matter what you buy or look at, think to yourself: what would bacon add to this? That's a big part of where we come up with our ideas.:)

I could make homemade doughnuts...
