TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

How'd he get it to 800? Even the racers from that year only topped out at 600hp according to this site: http://www.69corvette.com/69specs.html#engine.
Internal engine work. High compression pistons, cam work, MSD ignition systems, performance exhaust, new oversized carb. He had to run 120 octane fuel because of the high compression ratio. There is no way that 600hp is the highest you can get big block chevy.

I love the Jeopardy Teen Tournament.

A - "Number of feet in a fathom."

Q - "What is five-thousand!"

Alex - No.

It's not 3000 BC, I don't know how many feet are in a fathom either. (Of course, I also know not to buzz in with a completely random guess.)

Edit to add: OK, fine, I'm a nerd and I did actually know that there are 6 feet in a fathom, but it's still pretty obscure. It's not like the kid didn't know that there are 100 cm in a meter or something.

I don't think it is that obscure. Besides, I was more talking about how often they buzz in with not only a total guess, but one that is WAY off. I dominate those kids. :)

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

Custom plates are only $30 in Alaska, so everyone has them. You only get 6 letters to work with, though.

Most poignant one I've seen is a Purple Heart plate that says BLWNUP. I guess a guy like that can have whatever he wants on his plate.

Good lord, was he fueling it with alcohol?

It isn't, but it's the highest available original engine option for that year's Corvette (in unmodified form, of course). Did your buddy have the original engine in it, or did he swap one in from somewhere else? I've seen rumors that they're going to shrink the engine size (new engine coming out) next year to improve fuel economy. I think that's really *'ing retarded given the nature and purpose of a car like this.

I don't think it was pure alcohol, but it was a high percentage. It was just standard race gas, at about $6/gallon, if I remember correctly.

It was the original block, but not much else was original, internals were new as were exhaust, intake, fuel system, ignition...

I was hoping they'd go bigger, I'm thinking 454...

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

I've heard it's going to be a 5.5L small block V8 / 440hp. Of course, the top end model will probably have a slightly bigger engine as per usual (2011 standard engine is a 6.2L V8 while the Z06 gets a 7L V8). They're apparently trying to get ahead of the more stringent CAFE standards that are coming.
