The air is free? Who knew?

The air is free? Who knew?
When I was a freshman in h.s. (1983 - screw you all) our church group took a ski trip to Colorado (which was repeated each year until I graduated). I recall my first mid-mountain chalet stop at Vail. In line at a cafe when asked to pay $7 for a blueberry muffin I said, "How much for the napkins and straws?". The cashier looked at me like I was from Wisconsin and we had a good laugh as I emptied my velcro wallet.
With all of the upcoming business travel/expensing that I anticipate doing for my new job, I've been debating between signing up for Delta SkyMiles and getting the matching Gold or Platinum AmEx rewards card to start racking up miles/MQMs/MQDs, or skipping the loyalty program hullabaloo and sticking with my current rewards card where I get double miles on everything and 5% miles redemption savings - much easier to understand and redeem.
My main holdup with Delta's card is that it's AmEx - there are still a lot of retailers that won't take it, and many of my periodic expenditures, such as utilities and insurance, won't take AmEx either.
I suppose I could consider another airline, but Detroit is such a major hub for Delta that it seems silly to do so.
Me either. 10-15 years ago it might be more common to find someone who won't take AmEx, but it so rarely happens now that it really catches me by surprise when it's not accepted.I've never had a problem with my Delta Amex card being accepted. The companion ticket every year is nice. Offsets the yearly fee.
Not worth it.Yeah, but you have to fly Spirit.
Someone give me something to be excited about when going to Vegas with my family (bro, sis-in-law, nephew (9), mom). My mom has been going to Vegas for 40 years, but we don't really have the same idea of Vegas fun. Mine is food (or booze). Hers is casinos.Going with a 9 year old requires casual dining places, so any of the hoity-toity stuff is out. I noticed Bouchon is there. Is it a sad, "Vegas" shell of the original Bouchon, or worth it? There's a Shake Shack, but again, is it a sad, lesser version? I've been there before, but not in the past 7-8 years.

Bouchon is good, but clearly you and I have different definitions of "hoity-toity". Bouchon is casual dress (so if that is your main concern, then you're good), but you'll still pay $40 for a steak frites entree with no beverages.![]()
I've been looking into going to the USA Copa America match in Philly on June 11th...
Today Southwest is offering a round of super cheap flights, but there is a catch: they're Milwaukee to LaGuardia instead of the Chicago to Philly flights I've been looking at... MKE ---> LGA is over 1/2 off compared to the other flights... I can get to from MKE no problem, but what am I getting into going between NYC and Philly? Google shows it's about 2 hours by car and an hour train ride that leaves from Penn Station in NYC... Anything important to know about commuting between NYC and Philly?
I wouldn't mind doing some NYC things too, but I have a feeling that it'll be $200+/night for a hotel alone plus whatever else I do...
the way to go to downtown Philly from LGA is to get the Q 70 express bus at the terminal to the jackson heights subway E train. Catch that to penn station. $2. 75. Then get an amtrak ticket, or cheaper go outside and catch greyhound or the megabus for 15 dollars. the train is 65 dollars, the bus lets you out in central philly. but it takes two hours vs one for the train. the subway bus to penn station is just over an hour.I've been looking into going to the USA Copa America match in Philly on June 11th...

I'm starting to plan a trip to New Zealand and Australia later this year. Any thoughts from folks that have been there would be appreciated.
Check this one out, it might help.. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/04/huvadhoo-maldives-swimaround.htmlHas anyone been to the Maldives? I was invited to a wedding in sw India in May and decided to add on a stop in the Maldives since it's so close.
I am trying to choose which island/resort to stay at. Tougher than I thought
Anyone tried using AirBnB for their travels?
I'm currently looking for hotels in Philadelphia for the 2nd weekend in June and brand name hotels in the "downtown" area are ~$200/night... Through AirBnB, I'm finding whole apartments for under $150/night... Just curious if this falls into a "get what you pay for" category...
