Tournament Predictions #6 Atlantic Hockey

Last but not least we figure out who the 15/16 seed will be. In this case I'm picking this as the 15 seed and a date with BU, since I took Michigan Tech in the CCHA.

Semi's

RIT sweeps Niagara - It's time to exercise the demons RIT. Will the NCAA appearance drought be over? This will be a good start as RIT handles Niagara in 2.

AIC 2-1 over Holy Cross - I didn't actually think AIC would get this far. Taking AIC as my upset pick in this tourney. Predicting two games get to OT in this series.

Final

RIT wins vs AIC - It's been a good year for all things eastern in college hockey this year. RIT joins the party. Tell them what they've won Bob? A chance to watch Lane Hutson skate in circles. I think RIT puts a scare into their first-round opponent for 2 periods, but sadly the top 2 teams this year are just too strong. Although I'm sure any Gopher haters out there will be quick to remind me about Holy Cross :)

That wraps it up, I covered all 6 conferences. Hopefully you enjoyed some of my banter, good luck to all your teams! Enjoy the best time of year in hockey!

RIT lost their leading scorer Laskosky in the RMU series and rumor is he's done for the year. They are a deep team but losing your top scorer is never a great thing. Niagara was super hot down the stretch (won 10/14 before sweeping HC) and always seems to give RIT fits even when they are bad. I still think RIT wins the series, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it go to game 3 and honestly could see either team winning it.

Nothing may motivate Niagara more than misspelling it.

This is why people like me, need people like you. I had no idea he was out for this series. I didn't see anything on the hockey sites I frequent talking about it, so I just didn't have visibility to it. Certainly think based on what you said that could make this series much tighter.

So if AIC is a co-host in Springfield and they win AHA...and UMass gets in too...who gets to stay at the regional? They'll both be in the 4 band, would they both get to be there? That's a doomsday scenario for the committee.

According to the NCAA the host for Springfield is University of Massachusetts, Amherst and Western MA Sports Commission. So while AIC is probably involved they are technically not a host. If one of the teams is a 3 seed and the other is a 4 it really shouldn't be a problem to place both there though. You do bring up an interesting scenario and it's possible that multiple school hosts make neither eligible. For example when a league hosts it does not give a league representative a slot. Perhaps the committee will steer it that way though. Omaha could be a bigger problem hosting in Sioux Falls unless the NCHC gets 5 teams in. They could force North Dakota to Missouri.

Thanks for the clarification on host roles in Springfield. Ideally you would be able to get hosts that aren't schools, but that's not realistic in the current situation. It would certainly change the dynamics.
Now if we can keep Providence out of Providence...
