Top 5 Defensive Players....

Re: Top 5 Defensive Players....

Great answers those are all great players... all with Great talents...

Has anyone been watching Jerad stewart lately, this kid is FOR REAL!!!

Re: Top 5 Defensive Players....

+1. Hoeffel is a great defensive forward (and he's our only hope on offense, too :o )

Actually, I was sort-of joking. Mike tends to be a guy that tends to hang out near the blue line, BUT yes, I agree. He does play defense well when he decides to come back out.

Re: Top 5 Defensive Players....

If we are listing great two-way forwards, then Darcy Zajac should be mentioned as well. :)

Of course, now he's out for 4-6 weeks after hernia surgery. :(

Re: Top 5 Defensive Players....

I like Ian Cole and Brendan Smith - except when they play against my team.

Mr. Stewart, your clever disguise is fooling no one. Yes, your son is playing well. However, I'm concerned that his father has Tourette's or some other compulsive disorder that causes him to start a new USCHO thread for every new thought that occurs to him.

Re: Top 5 Defensive Players....

Also, since the title is "defensive players" and not just "defensemen", I'll give a shout-out to Luke Popko. Not many forwards are better than him defensively.

Popko is an impressive -4. Just because a forward can't score doesn't make him a great defensive forward.

As for this list, Zdeno Chara would be near the top.

I don't really see what Popko's offense, or lack thereof, has to do with his defense. I'm just saying that having followed Hockey East very closely for the last 3 years, the only player I've seen during that time who I think was better than Popko defensively and on the PK was Joe Vitale.

Re: Top 5 Defensive Players....

Brendan Smith U Wisc.
Jeff Petry Mich St
Nick Schous U Mass Lowell
Blake Kessel UNH
Kyle Lawson ND

Re: Top 5 Defensive Players....

OK, it's time for VermontDad's riddle to be answered.

There have been some decent guesses and some awful guesses, still, thanks for playing. The best guess was johnnypohlfan's 'whichever Vermont defenseman is your kid.' The most correct comment, separate from the direct question but not unrelated to VTDad's thinking, was JD's statement that just because a player can't score doen't automatically make him a defensive whiz.

The answer to the riddle, and it was a touch of a trick question.......whoever is UVM's first line center. You know, the senior who, after scoring well in juniors, has most if not all of his offensive instincts and abilities aborted by UVM's coaches.

Now we can all return and resume the Tiger Woods thread.

Re: Top 5 Defensive Players....

Not only does it say "defensive players" instead of "defensemen", but it says "players" instead of "skaters". Therefore, I will go with these guys:

1 Cody Reichard, So, Miami 10-1-2 .938 1.3427
2 Pat Nagle, Jr, Ferris State 4-2-1 .940 1.5938
3 Taylor Nelson, So, Ferris State 9-1-1 .937 1.7279
4 Scott Gudmandson, Jr, Wisconsin 5-2-2 .925 1.8669
5 Mike Johnson, Fr, Notre Dame 4-5-2 .934 1.8693

Re: Top 5 Defensive Players....
