#27 - 2007-2008 Michigan Wolverines vs. #38 - 2002-2003 Colorado College Tigers
The Wolverines and the Tigers squared off in a tremendous match for a spot in the West Regional's Round of 32. Kevin Porter got things started with a beautiful goal midway through the first period to put Michigan up 1-0. However, the lead would not last long as the Tigers stormed in front with two goals within 87 seconds to take a 2-1 lead after the first. CC continued their strong play early in the second, and Peter Sejna scored a beauty to put the Tigers up 3-1. Red Berenson then made a goaltending change, swapping Bryan Hogan in for Billy Sauer. The move energized the Wolverines, and Michigan pulled back within a goal with just moments left in the second. Michigan's momentum continued early in the third, and by the midway point of the third, the Wolverines scored two more times to take a 4-3 lead. With the clock winding down, the Tigers made a ferocious push, and Joe Cullen's blast from the point with just over two minutes to play knotted the game at 4. The game went into overtime, and each side pushed for the game winner, but through twenty extra minutes, the game still was tied at 4. Finally, 9 minutes into the second extra frame, Colin Stuart lit the lamp to give the Tigers a 5-4 double OT victory, and secure CC a spot in the Round of 32.
#11 - 1977-1978 Boston University Terriers vs. #75 - 1978-1979 Minnesota Golden Gophers
Two squads littered with members of the Miracle on Ice team took to the ice to see who would advance to the Round of 32. Jim Craig made several great saves to keep the Gophers off the board, but Bill Baker's howitzer from the point finally proved too much for Craig to handle, and Minnesota jumped out to a 1-0 advantage. The Terriers came right back with a Dave Silk goal, and after twenty minutes of play, BU and Minnesota were all square at 1. The second period proved pivotal, as the Terriers continued where they left off in the first, and Minnesota had no answer. BU scored three goals within a four minutes span midway through the second frame to take control of the game 4-1. Minnesota managed a goal with just over 6 minutes to play in the third, but it would be too little, too late. The BU Terriers won 4-2 to advance to the Round of 32.
#22 - 1955-1956 Michigan Wolverines vs. #86 - 1974-1975 Michigan Tech Huskies
Two Michigan schools and former WCHA rivals met in the final Round of 64 matchup. Mike Zuke got the party started with a quick goal to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Tech Goalie Jim Warden stopped the rest of the shots he saw in the first, and after twenty minutes, Michigan Tech led 1-0. The lead did not last long in the second, as the Wolverines scored twice in quick succession to grab a 2-1 lead. As the battle raged on, Michigan Tech found a second goal by Zuke to knot the score at 2, which was the score after forty minutes of hockey. The third period was full of intense action, and it looked like the game just might head into overtime. However, the Wolverines' Wally Maxwell scored on a wrister from the slot with just over four minutes to go to give Michigan a 3-2 lead. However, Michigan Tech responded with a beautiful goal from Dana Decker tie things up at 3 apiece. Once again, overtime loomed, but with just 42 seconds to play, Michigan's Mike Buchanan scored on a blast from the point, and the Wolverines held on to beat Tech 4-3 to advance to the round of 32.
