Some of these races still have potential, others don't. The 400m hurdles are a lot closer to the 400m than the 110M hurdle is to the 100M. Right now, it's pretty impossible to remove a step between the hurdles for 110M, but there's space for removing steps for 400m.

Her photo was replaced by a... ahem... different one. Absolutely appeared to be her, which tells you everything you need to know about the power of modern surveillance.

Anyway, Poland gave her a Humanitarian visa so good for them (even though they suck). Were I she I would get the hell outta Eastern Europe, maybe outta the hemisphere entirely. Of course where are you going to run? If the GOP ever gets the White House back they'd just hand her right to them.

One problem is her parents are still in Belorussia. She has already stated she is concerned about that. Her husband had already gotten out to the Ukraine.

As a parent, if she were my daughter I'd just be happy she was out. I can take care of myself and worst case I've had my run. I want my child safe; I'll deal with me.
 
Speed WALKING! Sobering part of watching this- they are walking at a pace faster than I was ever running for a distance. The expected winner is to be about 3:40, and over 30 miles, that's a 7:20/mi pace. I don't think I even ran a mile at that pace.

Yea, it's amazing how much pace those people will carry. And it's also amazing how they tread the line between "walking" and "running". Talk about bending the rules to the breaking point to get an advantage...
 
I never understood why Artistic Swimming was an athletics event until they put cameras under the water. Now I'm prepared to believe they are the most impressive athletes in the world. Their body control is unbelievable. I have no idea how they do verticals. You have to see them to believe them.

Yes, and your “leading” leg has to be straight when you put your foot on the ground, and it has to stay straight until after your other leg passes it to become the new leading leg. Judges have to follow along to evaluate every step of every competitor for all 31 miles - judging the race walking might be the most grueling effort in the entire olympics.

Because of all the rules, there have to be judges. And because there are judges, these walks have to happen on short, closed, loops. I can't imagine looking at the exact same scene for 4 hours like that- utter torture.

However hard marathon running is, at least the scenery changes more often- even with the long loops that the Olympics use.

And that was the last 50k walk in Olympic history (for now, I guess).

And like ice hockey, there are penalty boxes for certain degrees of penalties.... Although, most I saw that spent time there eventually got DQ'd later on.
 
Where are the Gophers here- your NCAA champ just won a gold medal in wrestling! And did it in the last second of the match. Literally the last second.
