Tis the MSU-EL Offseason

Re: Tis the MSU-EL Offseason

Rumor in the schedule thread that Princeton may be coming to Munn for a couple this season, first meeting for the teams since 1980. The conference schedule is going to be wacky, but one plus of the Big Ten is we're going to be able to see a lot of new teams for non-con, rather than the interchangeable AHA team each year.

Re: Tis the MSU-EL Offseason

Hey, the AD will be $2 million richer!

@LetsPlay_Hockey: Big Ten hockey schools will get $2 million per year from the Big Ten Network, in addition to the allotment that all B1G schools receive.

Re: Tis the MSU-EL Offseason

Per tLSJ, MSU's getting a new Swedish import next season. It'll probably take a while for him to get acclimated to North American hockey, but he looks like a really solid get.

Great size, too. 6-foot-1 and near 200 pounds.

I'll buy and donate a Swedish flag to the student section.

This is a GOOD pickup. He was the leading scorer in the U20 Junior Elites in Sweden, and he acclimated pretty well when Muskegon borrowed him for 7 games in January. I'm now starting to wonder how scholarships will be divided up, with only 3 forwards leaving from last season and 5 coming in. Unless Joe Cox, for example, is kept back because of his knee injury, or Maceachern stays another year at Muskegon.

Re: Tis the MSU-EL Offseason

Thanks :) The kine are green here ... however, I think it's enough to know that East Lansing is not Mankato. I am half-tempted to also spell it out a bit more because the "L" does not stand for "Landfill" - we're more of a glacial till-sort of area.
Indeed.

Re: Tis the MSU-EL Offseason

Haag wraps up MSU's 2013 incoming class.

This is a pretty good class, I think. Good size and a solid talent level. MacEachern, Cox and Ebbing should mature into great players. Haag and Stenglein should develop nicely, too.

Re: Tis the MSU-EL Offseason

Big Ten schedule is out

The geniuses over there decided to put the second UM/MSU series during spring break.

Also made both OSU/UM series during Thanksgiving break and the first weekend of spring break, as well as Minnesota/Wisconsin during Thanksgiving.

Re: Tis the MSU-EL Offseason

Any guesses on the remaining non-cons? Going by the schedule thread, the other teams with at least 2 slots still open (since I can't see there being more than one two team weekends) are:
AHA: AIC, Army, Bentley, Sacred Heart, Air Force, Canisius
ECAC: Cornell, Harvard, Clarkson, Quinnipiac
HE: BC, Maine, UMass, Merrimack
WCHA: Ferris, and Northern.

I remember hearing Walt Kyle was refusing 2 for 1's so that means NMU is out. We're rumored to be playing Ferris already in the HOF game but I could see a series being scheduled also. I can't see AIC or Army coming in. Bentley came to UM last year so possibly them. Probably no to SH. Don't think BC will be on the schedule either. We already have Princeton but I wouldn't mind another Ivy League school. Maine or Merrimack? I have absolutely no idea.

Re: Tis the MSU-EL Offseason

I recall hearing some wacky rumor that AIC was coming to Munn for a pair. I'm taking that with a grain of salt, though.

Re: Tis the MSU-EL Offseason

I'm still hearing that awesome AIC rumor. I am hoping it is in early October. AIC seems to go to the region when they're not playing Air Force in Colorado, which is this year.
Plus, what a perfect excuse to visit Eastman's Antique Orchard in Wheeler and Moore's in Midland.

Re: Tis the MSU-EL Offseason

Well, UM just came out with their schedule and have a one-gamer with Ferris. So that means we can either cross them off the list or we'll also have a one-gamer with them. I'm hoping to see LSSU on the schedule in future seasons.

BC is also coming to UM for a Thursday game on the 10th of October. The homecoming game for football is on the 12th against Indiana, so possibly a Friday the 11th game against BC?

BU and UML are heading to Michigan October 25 and 26 to play Michigan and Michigan St. Terriers will be at Munn on the 26th. Looking forward to it. I've never been to Munn - I regret not making the trek in 1990 for the NCAA games.

Atmosphere won't be anywhere near as good as it was then, but it should still be a fun time. Even though last season was awful, Anastos has been very good at marketing the team and so attendance skyrocketed from his first season. 90% average attendance and even set the single game attendance record at Munn.

Here's my two cents worth....

We know BU and UML will be here in late October. This is probably a two year deal with Michigan and us going there next year.

One game with Ferris probably at GR...

An Atlantic Conference team, probably AIC, here for two games.

Two games at a Hockey East school as part of a two year deal where they come here next year. I'll guess Maine.

Toss in a Canadian school and the U-18 team to complete the schedule.
