Re: Things to do in Tampa (Preferably Before You're Dead)

Firestick Grill is available at 5:30PM Saturday. Game starts at 7:00. We can reserve space for up to 20 people.

Re: Things to do in Tampa (Preferably Before You're Dead)

There is a rays touch tank at Tropicana Field. I want to touch the Rays! I mean, uh, rays. :D

Ballpark concessions seem fairly uninspiring, besides maybe the Cuban sandwich and "craft beers" - http://mlb.mlb.com/tb/ballpark/signature_items.jsp - I wonder what a "chipstick potato twist with special seasonings" is. Could require further research.

That sounds a lot like a curly fry.

Kepler, must you ruin everything? :p ;)

I believe, after further research, it may be ONE BIG curly fry. On a stick. Kind of lame.

I already made reservations (USCHO group) but I won't be able to attend. I won't be going to Tampa after all. Have fun down there.

It looks like a bunch of potato chips on a skewer.

Extended forecast says isolated thunderstorms. Do I bring an umbrella??

stadiumjourney.com review. Note that you can spend a long time waiting in line to touch the rays on days when there are a lot of kids at the game; I have to figure Opening Day might qualify.

Scarlet, weather.com says 40% chance of rain on Thursday, 30% on Friday. If you have a small umbrella that's easy to pack, I'd say bring it, but if you don't want to then you can always buy a crappy one at a CVS or something down there and then throw it away. Also: highs in the low-to-mid 80s all week, overnight lows around 70. So, everyone remember not to just pack the same clothes you brought to St. Paul last year!

an hour?! oh boy. but I love aquariums and it's a very unique ballpark feature, so I think I still need to do it. and of course the Rays have their Opening Day at 3 pm, probably after schools get out.

Looks like gates open 2 hours before first pitch, unless there's a special Opening Day time.

Scarlet - I am bringing an umbrella, because I always overpack. :)

At the Lightning/Caps game tonight sitting directly behind the Lightning penalty box. For those wondering what to wear to the rink, I'm VERY comfortable in shorts, sandals and a jersey with a tshirt underneath. Not a cold rink at all.

Re: Things to do in Tampa (Preferably Before You're Dead)

For those driving to the game: There is a lot just south of Morgan and Whiting on your left if driving towards the rink that has parking for 2 bucks a day, honor system. Open field type of lot. Cheapest I saw while walking around the area tonight for the NHL game down there. Also several lots for 5/10 bucks a short walk from the rink.

Checked in for the flight, boarding passes printed. This is happening!

the Mote Marine Laboratory in on Long Boat Key has a wonderful aquarium and "touching" pools. it a bit of a drive from Tampa but a beautiful and interesting area.

Ya, I had about 92 on my car thermometer today as well down here. Little hot for my tastes too, but beggers can't be choosers ;) I prefer this to 40 and rain or whatever it could be back up north.

Re: Things to do in Tampa (Preferably Before You're Dead)

Just got off of the Jewel of the Seas and am sitting in the hotel lobby seeing a bunch of other fans. Odd to think about a cruise to mexico and now to see hockey.

Anyway, are we going to try to meet up between games?

When I went to the Lightning/Caps game Monday night, I took a lap around the 100 level. There are what looks to be good meeting areas in the 4 corner areas behind the 100's. 104/106, 110/112, 120/122 and 126/128. I can't remember exactly where there was a stairway coming from the upper levels (I want to say the 104/106 area, but I could be wrong) but one of those has nearby access to a stairway and elevators for those coming from the upper regions. I did NOT go above the 100's, so I can't say what there might be up above for potential meeting spots.

I'll be down around the rink in my SLU Road #15 jersey and khaki shorts. Hope to meet some of y'all crazies today! Should be a.... beautiful day for hockey? 85, a nice breeze, and a 30% chance of a tstorm. I'll take my chances.

I cruised the 100 level a few times last night, but didn't see any familiar faces there.
