This simply just confirms what most of the hockey world already knew... but now it is in writing.Well it's official...Pearson lied and dodged the game.
"With two weeks off and only three days to prepare, the uncertainty of COVID, raised mental health concerns, the increased risk for potential injuries..."
Marv could make those excuses for every game on the schedule for the last two plus seasons and he certainly hit all the hot button topics trying to make his case. He makes his players out be a D-III level club team that can't deal with the daily grind of being a D-I hockey player. With the number of NHL drafted guys on that roster, that's embarrassing to throw his team under the bus by making them look soft/weak to get the outcome he wanted.
In the end nothing will happen because they were the first to try a stunt like this, but I expect some wording from the NCAA ice hockey committee in the offseason to address this kind of tactic. When the NCAA tourney is set by a formula, this kind of manipulation of the system better not be allowed going forward.
Going forward, there is no reason for Michigan to participate in the GLI again. The tourney doesn't need them and they clearly don't want to be there. The hockey team can sit at home for a month and watch their football and basketball teams on TV while they address their severe "mental health concerns..." that prevent them from playing hockey games.
