THE University of Michigan 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: THE University of Michigan 2010-2011 Season Thread

Dear Carl Hagelin:

Thank you. We owe you one.

Sincerely,
Ferris State

Dear Ferris State:

You had your chance to pay me and my teammates back and blew it in the third period, tonight. Just one little win over ND would have been nice.

Sincerely,

Carl Hagelin

Re: THE University of Michigan 2010-2011 Season Thread

He played good enough for the team to win, the team defense was lacking on goals 2 and 3.

1st goal, real nice shot upstairs on a smaller goalie
2nd goal, puck bounced right over Pateryn's stick, Balisy is not covered and puts in the rebound
3rd goal, Langlais/Glendening left Campbell wide open, no chance on that one.

You misunderstand- he has stood on his head the past several weeks and stolen points when his team didn't deserve them. This weekend, he needed his teammates to pick up the slack because he couldn't stop everything. I can't agree with you more, the defense has been too loose. Hunwick will tell you that he didn't play his best on Saturday, though.

Re: THE University of Michigan 2010-2011 Season Thread

Ok, now fair warning I'm a little drunk and a lot sentimental right now, which is always a bad combination for posting something on the internet. But I just need to pay my respects to Carl and the rest of the seniors tonight. Forget the two beyond-clutch goals...did anyone notice the sequence when a Michigan defenseman broke his stick with about 6 minutes to go? He went to the bench for another stick, and Carl just jumped on the ice instead and played out the shift. It wasn't his line, and there wasn't even a great scoring chance...but it showed that Carl would've taken any opportunity to be on the ice for a few extra seconds.

Now I know, maybe you could take this as Carl not being the biggest team player. But on this era of leaving school early, ditching NCAA for juniors, etc. it was just so great to see a guy with NHL talent playing in college that wanted to win that badly. And it wasn't just Carl tonight, you could see the same desperation for Louis, Scooter, Matt and the rest. I know in all likelihood they'll probably leave without ever sniffing an NCAA title, but I'll miss this senior class perhaps more than any other before it.

Thank you seniors....whatever happens the rest of the way it was a great 4 years!!

19:20 of the third?!? 4:57 of the OT?!? C'mon Hagelin, you're killin' me! Apparently Western forgot this guy was your leading scorer and would be on the ice in the ultimate crunch time???

I gather Yost was absolutely rocking last night when the clock struck 10:00. Deservedly so. Nice win. ;):D

I must suck at searching, but where can I find the video highlights of the game last night? Fox Sports latest ccha highlight is a few weeks ago- according to them.

edit- found the fox highlights on mgoblue.com

Don't give up on them yet. My only realistic chance to see the team in person this season is in St. Paul, 2 1/2 hours from where I live in Duluth. I expect to see them there.

Re: THE University of Michigan 2010-2011 Season Thread

The upperclassmen ran the show, they had most of the freshman in bikinis.

I got clarification as to who performed at Mock Rock in the hockey skit:

1. Winnett was Bob Barker
2. Burlon was Berenson
3. Brown was Hutchins
4.Scooter was Denard
5.Rust was Forcier
6. Treais, DeBlois, Bennett and Moffatt were in bikinis.

What are you doing in Duluth now? I might try getting over there for a few days this summer. Friend of mine is the news anchor at one of the local TV stations.

On to Marquette, any thoughts/predictions?

It may be selective memory, but it seems like we don't play too well on the Olympic ice. I haven't seen NMU play this year, so I really don't know what to expect from them.

Overall, 5-6-3 on the road.

1-2-2 Olympic rinks: Tied UNH 3-3, split w/ Alaska, losing 3-0 and winning 5-2. Tied Wisconsin, 3-3 (not Olympic size, but not standard, either.). Lost to Minnesota, 3-1.

4-4-1 Standard rinks: (Swept BG, tied/SOL -Ferris, lost to MSU, split w/ OSU, beat Ferris, got swept by Miami)

I'm the assistant pastor at a church in town. I love the work, it's a great job. Michigan's recent trip to Minneapolis was unworkable, though, because it was on a Sunday. Who's the anchor that you know?

I won't be able to make it to Marquette this weekend, unfortunately, there is just too much going on.

We also had olympic ice at the Big Chill. Not a road game but still revelant.

Re: THE University of Michigan 2010-2011 Season Thread

Well, now we don't need a tiebreaker for second place.

I kinda doubt that we can count on Notre Dame to drop a point, but lets hope we can take another 3 from Northern tonight.

Re: THE University of Michigan 2010-2011 Season Thread

Obviously, I did not expect that. Wow!!!

Lets hope we can back that up at the Joe in a few weeks.

Re: THE University of Michigan 2010-2011 Season Thread

You guys looked good tonight. Protected the puck, very hard to forecheck against, and some very very fast forwards. NMU kept it close Friday Night, but NMU can not keep up over a 2 game series.

Red said Caporusso will have an MRI Monday. He is considered "week to week" for now.

Also, the dumb NHL 94 celebration has been done before. Dont try that again please.

Re: THE University of Michigan 2010-2011 Season Thread

Regular season CCHA championships probably aren't quite as big a deal for you guys as they still are for us, but after last year this one has to be pretty sweet. We brought our B- game to the ice tonight and Western brought their A+ game with them and really took it to us. Congrats on a great finish, and on the title.

Re: THE University of Michigan 2010-2011 Season Thread

I wasn't concerned about the regular season title until something was pointed out to me. Should the team advance through the home playoff series, it means the first game at the Joe will not be Notre Dame or Miami, which could be a nice advantage.

Thank you Western.

Now to see how the first week of CCHA playoffs unfolds.
