Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

Medicaid expansion in Maine, which LePage has vetoes 5 times appears to be on the way towards passing.

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

Northam was just rushed off stage.

Looks like a protest...?

And he’s back.

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

VA House of Delegates, which started the night 66/34, will be 50/50 unless one of the close races is flipped on provisional ballots. Four of those races are within 150 votes. In one, the Republican leads by 12 votes.

Coming into the night a GOP incumbent held 12 seats in districts won by Hillary.

The Democrats flipped all 12.

So @chucktodd just said that most voters weren't looking at the issues today per se... they were (quote) "Looking for the D."

That's what she said.

Dems flip two rural GA state house seats, one of which had gone to Trump by > 7 points.

Maybe some hope against Moore if we're gaining even in the deep south.

From 538:

To bring the point home a bit, Democrats have won — or are leading in — literally every race that Daily Kos Elections decided to highlight on its scoreboard tonight, except the 45th state Senate District in Washington state, where polls are still open.

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

It appears the GOP is going to take a hit in the VA legislature.

And this: I hope that they campaigned on the issues, but I really doubt it.

@LEBassett: Trans woman Danica Roem (D) just defeated anti-LGBTQ candidate Bob Marshall (R) in Virginia, becoming the first trans state legislator in America.

Holy crap that happened in Prince William County! Things have changed since I was young.

Oh my god. Brilliant line from a comments section on Politico:

I wonder if the number of trump campaign officials currently under house arrest in Virginia had an impact on the vote in Virginia......

It will bankrupt the greatest place in the world, very sad.

Take it from me, the place is already dead so really what difference does it make.

Wow. That deserves a slow clap.

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

The Republicans entered last night with a 66-34 lead in the VA House of Delegates, needing 1 pickup to get a veto-proof supermajority.

As of now, they have lost 16 seats with three more in recount, the House is 50-50, and the Lieutenant Governor (who breaks ties) is a Democrat.

The VA General Assembly, which was not up for election last night, is 21-19 D. So while the Republican gerrymandering was already being challenged in the courts, the Democrats are very close to being able to just redo it themselves.

The Democrat won the special election in WA SD-45, so the WA State Senate has flipped from R to D control. Dems now have a clean sweep of state house, senate and governor there.

The Dems will now have trifecta control of 8 states. The Republicans still have trifecta control of 26 states. There is still a lot we have to do in 2018 and 2020, but hopefully this is a signpost along the way.
