Shapiro is (1) much smarter than that, and (2) more principled than to support the obvious horseshit of AI data centers raping our resources while destabilizing our economy.

Note the circumstance that even prompted the question -- a law which constrains them. Is it bullshit? I dunno, and neither does anybody else here for now.

Something is up with the choice to only show that short clip. Even if I thought Shapiro was another ethically compromised Schumer Dem, which I do not, he's too smart to make that poor a decision optically.

Note only the one exchange is shown. I'd love to see the entire interview. I assume the before and/or after show a greater framing that changes the context to such an extent that showing only the clip amounts to an unwarranted attack.

I think you're misinterpreting what he said. I think he's saying, if the data center wants to get built there, they need to take the steps to assure that they WILL be a benefit to the community, and not just a resource draining monster that does more harm than good. And if the residents there don't feel that way, then the data center isn't gonna get his support.
