The Sporcle Thread

Re: The Sporcle Thread

Yeesh... I'm too young to remember most of them. I got the legends and the most recent. 40... :o

"too young" is not an excuse. :p I got 156 this time, but should have remembered about 20 more.

I ALWAYS forget Red Schoendienst, or don't want to type it. Which is odd, because I bother to type "Yastrzemski". And I should remember him, because he was a Milwaukee Brave. Have not gotten him even once. I tend to think of players in groups - by team, position, or nicknames (Rabbit, Ducky and Gabby always go together in my head - and Pie, Tris and Nap). But then some you get because they have the same last name as someone more memorable.

There's a Hockey HOF one too - http://www.sporcle.com/games/nhl_hof.php - I suck at this one, since I'm not up on NHL history. I got 97, and was lucky there are a lot of multiple names. I can get some of the guys I've seen, some of the legends, and the guys that had trophies or divisions named after them. :)

holy crap, this one was tough - <a href="http://www.sporcle.com/games/PDepew2181/mlb_250_home_runs">MLB Players with 250+ Home runs</a>.

You do not have to be that great to hit 250 home runs. I could've used a refresher on my slightly-above-average power hitters. I got 130, but managed to miss some from my own team.

Oh crap. I found a Sporcle app for my droid. Now the work internet filter can't keep me from playing at work.

I got up to 140. Team names really helped. Mike Piazza was the only guy with 400+ that I missed. Joe DiMaggio is the only one I feel bad about not getting. Otherwise, it's a lot of Steroid Era players I don't feel bad about missing like Raul Mondesi, Ryan Klesko, Adrian Beltre, etc.

I took some of the top 100 baby names of a certain decade ones. Those were hard. For the 70s boys' names, I missed Jason. I think there were about 10 Jasons in my high school graduating class. I managed to remember my own name for the 70s girl ones. :p :)

My boss at the paper has got me hooked on this. Sporcle is the ultimate killer of productivity. That and fantasy sports.
