The Religion Thread: A Believer-Atheist Alliance

Re: The Religion Thread: A Believer-Atheist Alliance

It's been working in Japan lately...

Japan's population decline is not on abstinence, it's entirely based upon people having very easy access to birth control devices and drugs. The majority of people will succumb to their basest desires time and again. Failing to acknowledge that is pleading for unwanted pregnancies and the subsequent increased quantity of abortions.

Re: The Religion Thread: A Believer-Atheist Alliance

Technically one is not pregnant until the fertilized egg (blob of cells) has been implanted in the uterus. At that point you then know if you are pregnant. I define that as a human being, it is human, it's not a rock, and it's a being. I still contend all human are just blobs of cells in different stages of development.
This. It really isn't that complicated. Of course as we stand, kids can be killed for at least five months past this point (and in some cases far beyond that point), so discussion of what happens at conception is just another of the pro-abortion crowd's efforts at distraction.

Are you trying to tell us it costs money to keep your legs shut?!

Don't want a baby? Can't physically or medicinally protect it? Don't have sex. Plain and simple.
People no longer believe that actions should have consequences.

People like me believe in consequences, but we also understand that not everyone has the same set of mores and will avail themselves of today's technology as a matter of convenience. Therefore, let's find the lesser evil in the situation and give it great consideration because the age old line of keep your legs closed just doesn't play out in reality as, it turns out, that people are horny and willing to take the risks. It was true back when abortion was illegal and girls were "sent to live with an aunt" while pregnant and a teenager in this country, and it was true when "good Christian" women faced truly harsh penalties for succumbing to lust. Biological, short-term urges win more often than not. So let's find realistic responses as a society to avoid the ugliest potential outcomes.

Another tepid and useless generalization.

Sigh. People can no longer face reality.

Sigh. People no longer know how to solve real world problems.

Re: The Religion Thread: A Believer-Atheist Alliance

So is a natural miscarriage a homicide? Is a woman who gets pregnant, parties hard during a girls night out, and miscarries a week later without ever knowing she was pregnant guilty of murder or manslaughter? Should we be holding funerals for all periods women have?

A natural miscarriage by an unsuspecting women is not a conscious decision to get rid of an unborn baby, so I don't see any potential conflict with what the Bible says. Of course drunkenness is not acceptable.

FlagDUDE08 is correct, keeping your legs shut and keeping your peepee in your pants will 100% keep you out of trouble. It's not THAT hard to abstain, you just have to be committed to it and keep yourself out of situations where you may be tempted to violate your precepts. And if you decide to do have sex, use a condom/other method. Why would you have unprotected sex and risk getting prego/getting someone prego? People are so dumb.

I would like a clarification on your drunkenness remark.

Are you saying a woman who gets drunk and miscarries a week into a pregnancy, even if she had no clue she was pregnant, should be guilty of a crime because that is not acceptable? Or are you just making a general statement that drunkeness is not a good thing?

I realize this is personal, anecdotal evidence, but I learned fairly early on that being ugly with bad hygiene is also very effective.

Spoken like someone who didn't have any quality options...

I read it as a general statement...

To be correct, you actually do not know if you are pregnant with implantation. What you have to wait for, which occurs after implantation, is the formation of the syncytiotrophoblast which secretes beta-HCG.

Oddly enough, certain tumors secrete beta-HCG. I unfortunately had a friend with a testicular cancer that was able to have a positive pee-and-see pregnancy test. Lightened the mood a bit....

That's a sad summary of where many people seem to be at. We're just animals breeding like any other creature following its instinct. Or so they'd have you believe.
