The PPACA Thread Part V: Doctor! Doctor! Give me the news!

If the GOP leadership (oxymoron?) had half a brain (I'm being optimistic here), they would have had replace ready on 1/21/17. Blow the dust off of it, change a few commas and have it ready for the President's signature by Valentine's Day.

In the other hand, if the Machiavellian GOP leadership really hates tD, then this is all part of a plan to get him out in 4 years (or less).

They don't have a plan. Their whole legislative philosophy is destroy the black man's legacy.

Some people are on to the fact that the GOP doesn't have a better idea than Obamacare

The way forward is strengthen and improve, not repeal and replace.

Step 1, i would look into allowing anyone 55? or older to buy into Medicare rather than get private insurance. Shifting older people out of the private market should help rates in the exchanges. Baby steps towards single payer.

GOP has NO idea.

You really think the R's could have spun together an actual replacement law in a month? They ran for seven years on straight repeal.

They didn't need to spin one together in a month. They had 7 farking years, as you yourself say.

You sure its the black mans legacy or simply destroy everything

Right but joe is saying they should have had a replacement ready in a month. They dont want to replace it their whole mantra has been to get rid of it. That is what bronco is saying.

He is basically saying joe is out of his gourd ;)

Good point.

Heard Rand Paul again. He's saying that all the Congressman who voted for straight repeal before it could be become law will answer for their changed votes now. Roy Moore may be indicative of that very thing.

He backed up Turtle Boy though saying that he voted for every single repeal bill there was.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part V: Doctor! Doctor! Give me the news!

Another problem in the expectations game was the lamestream media pimping Ryan and McConnell as some sort of legislative geniuses. Might think we were talking Rayburn, O'Neil, or LBJ here. Chump may be an idiot, but even he probably had some sort of expectation that they had their act together a lot more than they actually do.

That was the Dems' original plan in 2009. Liebermann and Baucus f-cked them over so they had to settle for ACA.

The GOP for at least the last 4 years of BHO talked about repeal and replace. Repeal and replace. OK - where was the replace on 1/21/17?

The excuse that the dog ate the bill won't fly. They were unprepared. That is a indictment of a gross failure of leadership.

I agree with this 100%.

More likely they never had any intention to repeal it. Their poutrage was just red meat for the suckers. It's a capitalist solution that keeps the donor class fat and happy and it headed off a better socialist solution, just like Heritage designed it to do. Why would they want it gone? All the bluster was just their dog whistle "we hate that n-gger, too!" to their charming voters. It was always completely disingenuous.

OR. The Senators with a brain (most of them) went home and their Constituents screamed at them that they want Obamacare gone but keep the Affordable Care Act. Cause that's how stupid of an electorate we have. Then they got cold feet. Hell, Cassidy is taking it in the shorts right now from Jimmy Kimmel.

that was just talk to rile you righties up and get you frothing at the mouth so you'd show up at the voting booth. They didn't give a **** about healthcare. Now they are the dog that caught the car and they don't know what the **** to do.

I think this is more correct. Goopers assumed people really wanted to get rid of healthcare to pay for tax cuts for the rich, because the millionaire donors and lobbyists they spend 99.9% of their time with want that. A straight repeal bill would have been pretty easy to do if not for the blowback from their constituents and horrific poll #'s for an issue that was getting a lot of coverage. Once the issue was quickly framed as nothing as part 1 of a massive tax giveaway, (part 2 being the so-called "reform" we're hearing about now) it was the beginning of the end. Some knuck' in the house said it best, which was McCain took that decisive vote for a handful of his colleagues who also didn't want the bill passed but feared a primary. Meaning, I'm not sure the final vote was ever as close as it appeared by the time the thing was mercifully buried.

I dunno, I think Mitch believed he had it when McCain made his vote. I was watching that live (by accident the gf and I stumbled upon it as we were going to bed and needed something to watch) and Mitch went from Shiny Happy to Angry Turtle when that thumbs down came.

I think he wanted it dead, but I think it was for different reasons than what is hypothesized...he wanted Trump to sign it and Trump to be buried by it.

Nah, they're the dog that got into mom's stash of Godiva chocolate bars, and is now not feeling so good...
