The PPACA Thread Part V: Doctor! Doctor! Give me the news!

The Democrats and the Republican Moderates could form a working majority and neuter the orcs. They would each get credit for professionalism and compromise and moving the country forward, and that would leave Hate Radio and Fox sputtering out in the cold with the Freedumb Caucus.

With significant achievements the GOP Moderates would be able to withstand primary challenges from the far right nutbars who have now been exposed as failures, and the country would benefit from the banishing of this domestic political terrorist movement that has destroyed governance since the mid-90s. The Democrats would lose the chance to have a tidal wave election in 2018, but the amputation of the Bircher lunatic right would be a long run win since the Overton window would readjust to where it has normally been in American politics.

Collins is incredibly safe in her seat. She is insanely popular in Maine. She is probably going to run for governor though. She's getting old and has probably had enough with the GOP nutjobs in Washington.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part V: Doctor! Doctor! Give me the news!

You can pretend this was all part of the plan but it wasnt. There is a reason Mitch had two speeches on he floor written (one for a win and one for a loss) and sounded like a 5 year old who lost in Little League after the vote. Watch the videos the look on his face when McCain votes no goes from "Happy" to "You Have to be Kidding Me". He wanted this to pass, he threw a ton of political capitol and all of his strength as Majority Leader behind it. He even attempted to bribe Murkowski with special additions that only Alaska qualified for. Mitch and the GOP caucus was all in.

The problem was they werent able to do it fast enough and attempted to do it in secret. When the video went viral of the GOP Whip accusing the Dems of not playing along and helping even after (during the video) Schumer says "pull the bill and we can talk about fixing it but we wont repeal" along with the GOP Whip saying "you never read the bill" to which Schumer and other Dems said "we all read it but there is nothing in it" causing again the Whip to again change his tune and say it was incomplete cause it was only a draft...that was the beginning of the end. Then the CBO put out its numbers and it was dead.

Exactly what I fear. Nothing will change. This is the exact result they wanted.

Then you didnt watch Scooby...the GOP is not that good of actors. And now their tax cuts are all but dead.

The Republican party is a machine for stealing public assets and handing them to the 1%. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear, and it absolutely will not stop, ever.

She has much more to worry about in a primary than general election. I wouldn't be shocked to see Brakey win in 2018 and LePage win in 2020. I think the people who are getting screwed by Obamacare(they exist) are much more passionate about voting than those who are benefiting. In a lot of ways I think the vote failing will be a boon to republicans next year. The bill wouldn't have helped many people had it passed and now they can still use it as an issue to run on.

That isnt what I said...but they needed to pass the repeal to get tax cuts through. (which is why Mitch and Co. are ticked and worked so hard) Now they have to go back to the drawing board.

Meanwhile the House just pledged $1.6 billion on the Wall Mexico was supposed to pay for. Gotta love the Party of Fiscal Responsibility!

No it isnt a positive for the Republicans. You sound like fans of teams that lose spinning how a loss is actually a positive thing. It might rally the base but only for the primaries they already vote in the general. At best it might cause some complacent R senators to go down. This and the Trump attack on Alaska will keep the Purple States Purple.

Yes, but rust never sleeps. If not this path then another.

Oh I know...doing it this way was dumb anyways.

Hell even if the Skinny Repeal had passed the Dems could have challenged it over the ridiculous Planned Parenthood portion. That violated the rules of Reconciliation.

LOL. Understatement of the Year.

No. The situation has changed a lot. They used to be able to go to that well because OBAMACARE ARGLE BARGLE, but now even the dullest knife in the drawer realizes that repeal will throw millions of people and their children off insurance and effectively end their health care.

The GOP needed to pull this off without any public debate because the facts kill them. They didn't accomplish that. This fiasco educated a lot of people about the actuals of Obamacare and Medicare, and that is very bad news for the GOP.

Yes, they can still use it as an irritant to get Fox suckers to donate money and time and votes, but the pool of those suckers shrinks every day.

The path forward for the GOP is to use Obamacare that way on the sly with their sheep, but with the larger electorate start darkly warning about the Democrats and TEH SOCIALISM!!! of Single Payer. There is still such global electoral ignorance about Medicare for All that they can squeeze another few cycles of right wing poutrage out of that before health care goes the way of social security and they have to find a new whipping boy.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part V: Doctor! Doctor! Give me the news!

Well what really killed them is that even GOP Governors didnt support straight repeal in many states. Gutting Medicaid and Medicare doesnt hurt poor Darky Jackson...it hurts Grandma Gladys and Grandpa Veteran. When Old Whiteys get screwed they fight back with power. The second the AARP came out against this the GOP should have walked away.

If that were actually true, it would have passed.

There would have been no reason to listen to the town halls, then.

It will be very interesting where they go from here.

Are you drunk? There is no way they would get praise from the R side, Hate Radio and Fox would have a field day and moderate Rs would all get primaried from the far right.

OR, the far right will get primaried by moderates because of what has come out re:ACA.

We will see.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part V: Doctor! Doctor! Give me the news!

Please see Trump's approval from his voters, they aren't turning.

I know. And they don't constitute a majority, either. Remember that many of dumps voters were voting against hillary.

And don't forget the very angry town halls.

It appears he and the GOP have a locked in ~40%. That's pretty scary. I don't think Democrats have that cause too many Democrats are wishy washy or will vote for the "Nader" of the day.
