Since when does a temper tantrum dissent matter when the majority of the court has said that states have to treat everyone equal per the 14th amendment?
The irony is the redistricting case was brought because the Dems slipped in the tie breaking member of the redistricting board by not letting on that the person had extensive Dem ties. And shock of shock the Dems loved the resulting boundaries and the Reps hated them, with most folks able to admit that they were more favorable to the Dems. Maybe there's a better way of doing it, but the AZ board has two Dems, two Reps, and an "independent" member, so the one independent person has enormous power and the selection of that person becomes all important. Legislatures certainly can make a circus of redistricting as shown by some of the crazy boundaries in various states, but a separate board isn't a guarantee that there won't be political tilts/games played with boundaries. How one comes up with "independent" members for such a board is critical.
Good point that the liberal mainstream media is avoiding reporting this problem.
If you mean that math will be used to do the redistricting, well, numbers can be twisted in all sorts of ways and there are many factors that could be weighed in different ways to create new districts. It's a case where there's some science to it, but also a good bit of art.
Yep. But wouldn't it be fun if a legislature could not redistrict its own state, but had to do another. Oh! the fun of Maryland being redistricted by Texas, and Texas by Massachusetts!
