Re: The Power of the SCOTUS Part VII - The Bedrock of the Republic!

Electing a Clinton is the plutocracy's way of banking their theft for another 4 years. They just wish they could get away with the same kind of games that the Clinton Foundation plays....

:(

Die an innocent man vs living for it? Odd question to ask.

Would you rather die innocent vs fight to live?

Death isn't the worst thing that can happen to a person. Being imprisoned for half your life might be worse to some people.

Like I said before, if you are legally fighting the sentence it would be stayed till resolved. 30 yrs seems like a long time for a legal argument to go on tho.

I guess that's a wrap? Happy on redistricting. Only way to get rabid partisanship out of drawing the lines. Can live with EPA ruling. If you have to do economic impact during planning stages instead of implementation, no big deal.

I don't see any political will to screw over millions of heterosexuals just to stick it to the gays

As if on cue.

It's official, "religious freedoms" has become the new "separate but equal." I don't think a single right wing news outlet has omitted it from their stories today.

Did Scalia cite religious freedom in his dissent or did he just cite 9 lawyers trampling over separation of powers?

Since when does a temper tantrum dissent matter when the majority of the court has said that states have to treat everyone equal per the 14th amendment?

The irony is the redistricting case was brought because the Dems slipped in the tie breaking member of the redistricting board by not letting on that the person had extensive Dem ties. And shock of shock the Dems loved the resulting boundaries and the Reps hated them, with most folks able to admit that they were more favorable to the Dems. Maybe there's a better way of doing it, but the AZ board has two Dems, two Reps, and an "independent" member, so the one independent person has enormous power and the selection of that person becomes all important. Legislatures certainly can make a circus of redistricting as shown by some of the crazy boundaries in various states, but a separate board isn't a guarantee that there won't be political tilts/games played with boundaries. How one comes up with "independent" members for such a board is critical.

Good point that the liberal mainstream media is avoiding reporting this problem. ;)

Math. It's the only way.

I almost hope there are more and more cases of egregious gerrymandering done by both sides, so that eventually the amount of disgust will bubble up sufficiently high on both sides to take this out of the pols' hands.

This is one of those cases in which it really isn't left vs right, it's elected officials vs all the rest of us, and if we get our act together we should be able to solve this.

Yes, it is just as bad when politicians do a little quid pro quo and work to gerrymander districts so officials on both sides are in districts that are safe for their own reelection.

If you mean that math will be used to do the redistricting, well, numbers can be twisted in all sorts of ways and there are many factors that could be weighed in different ways to create new districts. It's a case where there's some science to it, but also a good bit of art.

Yep. But wouldn't it be fun if a legislature could not redistrict its own state, but had to do another. Oh! the fun of Maryland being redistricted by Texas, and Texas by Massachusetts!
