The Paint Store Diaries: Michigan Tech Offseason Part III

Re: The Paint Store Diaries: Michigan Tech Offseason Part III

Tech is being listed as having a new recruit. Andrew Kolb. He played for Marquee NAHL and will be playing for Muskegon of the USHL.

Also, the freshman have been added to the roster. What a large class.

Toledo, Ohio! Really? :p

54-24-41-65 last year in Marquette

Re: The Paint Store Diaries: Michigan Tech Offseason Part III

I had wondered if the staff had taken a look at any of the other Marquette players when they were scouting Kero. With those numbers, he must've been part of the top line there.

I guess we'll see how the USHL works out for him, especially playing for an expansion team. Though he will be a 21 year-old halfway through the year.

Re: The Paint Store Diaries: Michigan Tech Offseason Part III

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but whatever happened to Adam Stoykewych? He committed back in December and his younger brother committed to CC. He disappeared from the list of Tech recruits on the Heisenberg website and is not on Tech's 2010-2011 roster. Did Tech "throw him back" or did he change his mind on his verbal?

Anyone hear what happened?

Re: The Paint Store Diaries: Michigan Tech Offseason Part III

I also noticed that he was missing about a month ago. I remember reading an article in which he expressed disappointment that he and his brother would have to split up to go to college (He hinted that Tech was recruiting both of them, but Peter decided to go to CC instead).

Re: The Paint Store Diaries: Michigan Tech Offseason Part III

Yes, I saw the same article. But so far I can't find any articles about changing his commitment.

I hope it was mutual so it doesn't reflect bad on Russell, I know in the recruiting process MTU was pushing hard for both and during the entire recruiting process Adam and Peter kept saying they were a package deal. If I had to speculate, I doubt MTU would have had much interest in Adam if it wasn't for the prospect of getting Peter.

Nor can I, which leads me to draw up some possibilities:

1. Tech threw him back because we got Holmberg late in the recruiting process (Would JR really do that to a recruit?)

2. CC offered to let him walk on, so we agreed to release him

3. ???

No, I don't really see JR doing that, But maybe Stoykewych looked at the numbers and figured he wasn't going to get much playing time and made other plans.

#2 is possible. Although in that article he stated that he picked Tech because he intended to study Mechanical Engineering. Would seem strange then to head to CC, but then what do they say..... "blood is thicker than water"

Maybe he will turn up somewhere else and the question will get answered.

Re: The Paint Store Diaries: Michigan Tech Offseason Part III

I suppose it is quite possible that he was shown the depth chart and told he was welcome to enroll and join the team, but his playing time would likely be zilch for at least the first two seasons. That'd be the gentle way of encouraging him to "evaluate his other options" to use PR-speak.
