Actually Michigan's game plan reminded me of how UAA played against us for 3 out of the 4 games this year including the playoffs, go into a defensive shell the whole game and get great goaltending while being outplayed and outshot.

I was saying that during the game. "Alaska can't even pull this off." The difference is NoDak defence played better in this game then ours.

Ummm, UAA outshot the Gophers 24-23 in the second game. And UAA outscored the Gophers 6-2, with no empty nets.

My point was just that Alaska is well known for their stingy defensive style, but I don't ever recall them going into a complete offensive shutdown while clinging to a one goal lead. No disrespect to the AA team, it was just an example that popped into my mind.

My point was just that Alaska is well known for their stingy defensive style, but I don't ever recall them going into a complete offensive shutdown while clinging to a one goal lead. No disrespect to the AA team, it was just an example that popped into my mind.

You have a short memory or missed a game. On January 29, 2011 the Seapups played the most defensive oriented game in Marriuci I've ever witnessed. They were dropping back while the game was 0-0. They would send a VERY token one man forecheck and he'd drop back as soon as the Gophers started up ice. That night they made UMI from last night look like a run-and-gun team.

I was aware of that one but did not actually watch it. So I figured that wasn't actually happening the same way as it was last night. If it was, oops.

Sure looks like it was his game plan... which I still can't believe. I've seen teams maybe go into a defensive mode for maybe 5-10 minutes of the game, but I have never seen it done for 30. I was just waiting for something flukey to happen to change around the game, but it never came. They worked their plan virtually perfectly and made sure they didn't need the officials to award them a goal to win a game this time.

Those two titles are getting pretty far into the past as well.

And as far as the "out-coaching"...enlighten me, Happy. What would you have done differently in Hakstol's shoes tonight? Dominate the opponent even more? Getting outcoached has nothing to do with Hunwick standing on his head and Michigan playing UAA hockey for the last two periods after they scored first.

First, Michigan got the Sioux to play Michigan's game. They played tight and trapped. The thing that the Sioux did was stop playing physical. The team is built on playing physical hockey and after Nelson got hurt the Sioux stopped checking. I firmly believe that this is why the Sioux lost. Hakstol should have brought that team out hitting after the first intermission.

Don't get me wrong, I thought the Sioux would win the entire game and am shocked that they didn't. However, when you look back at it Red game planned the win and got it becuase Hakstol couldn't adjust his team.

Hunwick didn't stand on his head. Ask him, he said he only made one or two difficult saves. Most of those shots on goal were from the outside. Hunwick played well and was solid but he didn't steal the game.
