From the attendance figures posted on other threads it would appear the WCHA could find itself with some financial challenges down the road.

One thing that hurts in the playoffs is that the attendance is based wholly on people coming in the door and not those people + season ticket holders that didn't show up. Combine that with a lot of the schools either being on or about to go on spring break, and it's tough. That said, it is still worrisome.

It was the same way in the CCHA. Playoffs start when a lot of schools are on Spring break, and attendance suffers.

Many people thought that before the season ever started. Time will tell. UAA certainly isn't going to get a nice lump of cash from the league like they did when the big guns were in our conference.

season ticket holders at MTU are required to buy first riund playoff tickets and then seek a refund if they don't host.

I agree. That's the way to do it. They get to sit on the interest for a little bit, and it's a discount to ST holders for the next year.

BGSU does the exact same thing. Not sure if they refund the Sunday game. Personally, I'm not exactly worried about $8.

A nice student from MTU Ticket Office called me with 4 options:
* Use for tickets for any Tech athletic event,
* Donate to the hockey program
* Use for next season's hockey tickets
* Receive a full refund
I purchased my tickets for next year. It's a good system.

That is how it is at Bemidji as well, part of the season ticket package with no refund. Of course, we haven't been able to use them since joining the WCHA...... (next year will be the year!)

And in what certainly cannot be a good sign for attendance for the Final Five I bought a ticket yesterday for the second semi-final, in the center section, in row 8. Granted it was only a single, but still not a good sign.

We were going to buy our tickets yesterday but there was an issue with ticket master in our area. The only seats that they showed available were on the end regardless of the number of tickets being purchased. We will be purchasing ours today. BG should have a fairly good showing, although a 2:00 PM game on Friday isn't ideal.

Yeah, I just checked at it looks like Ticketmaster is showing plenty available today. Hoping to see a good crowd from BGSU and hoping they stay for the second game too!
