Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

I'll be there with the family. Any beer places that are family friendly? We've never been to Grand Rapids.

There is a BWW across the street from Grand Rapids Brewing Company.

I will be there if Tech is there. And if we're talking beers, don't forget HopCat. My impression is that the immediate area around Van Andel Arena has become kinda trendy.

HopCat and Grand Rapids Brewing Company are both good places for craft beer that are less than a 5 minute walk to the arena, Founders is a little further but walking distance. There are some good choices for food/beer on Ionia too.

So to get in the playoffs:

JUST WIN YOUR **** GAMES! Worry about the rest later...

That's my line and I'm sticking to it... I hate math and probability :p

Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

So in a nutshell................. just sit back and wait............win your in.........lose and, good luck.

Ferris needs to sweep up in Nanook land, because MSU looks like they are not going to lose.

MSU has to play on the road though, we've been AWFUL on the road. Anything can happen.

A "Cliff's Notes" version of what is happening the last two weeks:

Ferris State 38 points, 4 games left (2 @ Alaska, 2 w/Lake State)
MSU-Mankato 34 points, 4 games left (2 @ Lake, 2 w/Tech)
Michigan Tech 28 points, 2 games left (bye, 2 @ Mankato)
Alaska-Anchorage 26 points, 2 games left (bye, 2 @ Alaska)
Alaska 24 points, 4 games left (2 w/Ferris, 2 w/Anchorage)
Bowling Green 24 points, 4 games left (2 @ Northern, 2 w/Bemidji)
Lake Superior State 24 points, 4 games left (2 w/Mankato, 2 @ Ferris)
Bemidji State 22 points, 4 games left (2 w/Huntsville, 2 @ Bowling Green)
Northern Michigan 21 points, 4 games left (2 w/ Bowling Green, 2 @ UAH)
Alabama-Huntsville 3 points, 4 games left (2 @ Bemidji, 2 w/Northern)

Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

These last two weekends are going to be crazy. Most of the teams probably won't know their fate until UAA and UA_ finish up after midnight Eastern on Sunday morning.

It's plausible that 3-9 could finish within a point of each other with a 6-way tie for 3rd...

I really hope scheduling is a bit cleaner next year. No Byes the last month. Having to watch on the sidelines with the tight race is terrible! (I understand that UAH probably screwed up everything this year)

And man this race is crazy...

Bring on the tiebreakers! Let's put them to the test FULLY this year right out of the gate!

More than likely it comes down to
1) Wins (currently favors LSSU and UA_ if they can get results against the top 2 teams in those series, or UA_ can sweep UAA).
2) Record against FSU (hurts NMU and UAA the most)
3) Record against MSU (likely hurts MTU, NMU and BSU)

Give the NCHC credit (and it really pains me to type that). They have everyone playing these last few weeks. For next year, we ought to at least have everyone playing conference games the last 3 or 4 weeks, and we ought to close with as many rivalry series as we can. It is fitting in that regard that UAA-UAF will finish off the regular season.

I made that comment about a month ago, but to be fair remember that very late in the process this was a 9 team league. I'm sure there are plans to have all 10 teams playing that last month or so going into the playoffs. On the other hand, I also wonder if MTU and UAA are on bye to avoid having anyone make a trip to Alaska the last 2 weeks of the regular season? But then again UA_ has to go to Ferris this weekend...idk

Yeah, the bye weeks after teams play in Alaska does kind of throw a wrench into this. The easist way around that would be to have the two Alaska schools play their two series the last two weekends of the year. Now that could make for an interesting rivalry, especially if the standings are as bunched as they are this year!

Anchorage & Fairbanks folks: Please engage sarcasm detection device to avoid damage to your delicate sensitivities.

There's an easier way to avoid the travel-to-Alaska "problem". Just kick their frozen tundra out of the conference

Ferris is going to Fairbanks, not the other way around.

I can't wait for the year both Alaska schools finish in the top 4.

I agree, then the real *****ing begins.

Good luck Thursday in the bball game,, this could be the game that the streak finally ends (although UAA is playing some **** good ball lately )

Thanks, and so are the Nooks. If not for a fluke Western Oregon shot we'd have third locked up. Should be a good one on Thursday.

Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

Per the WCHA this afternoon...there are currently 387,420,489 different possibilities for the finishes of teams 3 through 9! Not making this up...that's how many.

I assume we're talking about point totals, not specifically seeding because seeding, theres only 5040 ways to order the teams 3 through 9
