The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

Re: The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

Ahh, the old "Pencil Michigan and MSU as 1-2, LSSU as 12th, and the rest is a crap shoot" CCHA poll method. :D

Re: The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

I'm rebuilding the links on my blog and hoping that rather than scouring threads here that I can get anyone interested in being linked from my blog to post their URL in response. I know it's lazy of me ... I'm not looking for links to WCHA member schools webpages (those are easy to find) but rather other bloggers/media pages which might be relevant or of interest to my readers. Thanks for any help in advance.

Re: The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

We might be getting closer to being able to get the season WCHA on America One. There are now links, but when you click them it takes you to last year's package that expires tomorrow (9/27). Maybe that means the new season is available on 9/28.

Re: The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

What link are you using? If it's the one from the WCHA.com page, here's what I get when I click it. It wants you to log in then it only offers a one day pass for $0.00.

It's been that way for a month, offering free one day passes.

Re: The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

I Tweeted the WCHA again today and they replied "Stay Tuned - Big Announcement Coming..."
Hopefully sometime before the season starts in 6 days...?????

Coaches and Media Polls should be out today.
1 Minnesota State
2 Ferris State
3 Northern Michigan
4 Michigan Tech
5 Bowling Green
6 UAF
7 UAA
8 Bemidji State
9 Lake Superior State
10 Alabama-Huntsville

As has been previously noted, it's likely to be a very close race again, especially in the middle portion where a game or two could mean a rise or drop of four or five spots in the standings. Good luck to all.

I really don't understand why everyone seems to think that BG will drop in the standings this year. We lost 8 to graduation, yes, but of those 8 only 1 scored on a regular basis (Bryce Williamson 28pts). The next closest was Wojtala with 13 points. Yes we lost Carpenter but he only played in 16 games last year due to injury. We also lost Freibergs, but I believe that we have more than replaced him with Friedman. IMO, with the freshman class this year we have much more coming in than we lost. This is the first year that Bergeron has all of his own recruits and each year that he has been coach we have improved. I don't expect any less this year. BG will finish in the top 3.

I really don't understand why everyone seems to think that BG will drop in the standings this year... BG will finish in the top 3.
After last year's finish, people are way too hung up on placements. Picking BGSU to finish 4th (based on last year's finish) means they expect them to be about 1 POINT lower in the standings. The general feeling with most of what I read is that people still feel FSU and MSU are still a notch above the rest. At the bottom, UAH still has work to do before they will climb out of 10th. Anything 3rd through 9th will likely be a toss-up and won't be locked in until March. I'm guessing we'll get to the last night of the season with 2-3 places in the middle of the pack still not decided as always happens in the WCHA.

I can only tell you why I think they will be lower. it's not that they are not better, they are, but you have two trips to alaska. That makes it hard the weekend after. you play at anchorage, who is always very tough at home, and you play four with ferris. Yes you only have two with minnesota state but also you only have two vs lake superior if memory serves.

So on balance, you might not get those one or two points that separates you from top 3. just my opinion though.

Well I guess that just about wraps it up - congrats to Ferris on the 2015 WCHA championship.
(Zero chance that the coaches AND media all know what they are taking about - that's why they play the games.)

Has anyone signed up for the package yet? I went to support and got an email back that it is up but can't find anything. I guess they don't want my money.

Re: The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

As far as I know, there is nothing available yet, however the link from the WCHA.com page has changed. It use to direct you to America One web site, now it keeps you on the WCHA.com domain and says:
Watch This Page For More Information Coming Soon!!!

In other news, I see the media guide was posted. As I was skimming through the records section I noticed that only three times in the history of the WCHA has the league champion had double-digit conference losses (10 in all cases): 1957-58 Denver (12-10-0), 1978-79 North Dakota (22-10-0), 1996-97 UND/MN Co-champs (21-10-1).

So long story short, once you get your 10th loss, you can pretty much kiss the McNaughton good-bye.

It looks like a typographical error. That's how it works. Based upon the point totals, with 10 points awarded for a 1st place vote and 1 for last place, it would appear there were only 26 voters, with UAH getting all 26 last place votes and Minnesota State getting 23 first place votes (230), 2 second place votes (18) and a third (8).

I want to know who voted Josh Kestner for a pre-season All-WCHA spot. COME ON. I hope that the kid lights it up for us, but it's a huge jump from the GOJHL to NCAA Div-I. McHugh I believe in, but not Kestner, not just yet.

I really don't understand why everyone seems to think that BG will drop in the standings this year.

It's mostly because there are too many subtleties when one person has to "assess" 9 teams that they don't follow closely. It's easy to know the team you follow closely but hella-hard to really get a solid feel on the others. So voters (especially the media ones) go with "gut feelings" and/or utilize whatever minor or major biases that they naturally have.
