The NCHC Year Two: Haters Please Form A Queue to the Right

Re: The NCHC Year Two: Haters Please Form A Queue to the Right

Bigger surprise? UNO is competitive and playing well or UND isn't having their first half struggles?

Of those two, I would definitely say UNO.

UNO has a pretty young team. Everyone figured they'd improve as the season moved along, but I don't think anyone thought they'd have great success right out of the gate this year. They are getting great scoring from the first line, and Massa has surprised everyone and had a very solid start.

As for UND, their schedule has been pretty tame. Providence is probably the best of the lot, but UND got to play them at home and when Providence was a bit dinged up. At Wisconsin can sometimes be difficult, but they're really struggling right now. Young players have to adjust to the speed of the game, and Wisconsin simply hasn't played enough games to let them start to make that adjustment. I don't think people would have been surprised if UND was sitting at something like 4-3-1, given their penchant for a slow start. But I also don't think the 7-1-1 start is that surprising given the schedule. They've done what they had to over that stretch, and now face a tougher slate of games.

Looking UNO's schedule as well...opposing teams record is 5-13-2. That doesn't help their cause. UNO still has to show that they can play in Feb, which they've shown on a consistent basis they cannot. UND has a tough test in a good Miami team this weekend.

Yup, that is why I am personally a bit cautious. We haven't played anybody that is really playing well except the Purple Cows, with whom we split at home.

That said, I'll take this start over doing the struggling-with-the-very-young-team thing.

6 NCHC teams ranked in the latest USCHO poll (today) and another receiving votes.

Rep being lived up to..................so far.

The bulk of the non-conferences games have occurred so barring teams losing a bunch of them things are looking really good. Maybe the NCHC can get 3 or 4 teams in the big dance (excluding the autobid)

We've got 4 left, still, all at home.

UAH on 12-20/21, which will not help our cause at all, and New Hampshire 12-30/31, who was ranked pre-season but has gotten off to a rocky start against a very tough schedule (series with 3 top 10 teams, already).

Ha. UND has you beat. They've got Niagara and LSSU left. What a floating turd of a non-conference schedule this turned out to be.

DU still has 6 left, AFA/Wisco in a couple weeks, @Cornell for two, and @ Dartmouth for games against them and Brom. Not sure any of those will help the conference's PWR situation come April, none of those 5 teams are playing very well.

UMD has Tech, UMTC and NMU...teams who right now are doing very well right now. Those games are going to be very important for our PWR and the conference.

What's up with the two against Lakehead? Couldn't fill a slot? Or a conscious decision?

If UNO didn't get at least a win and a tie against WMU, Cornell and the Buckeyes I'd be wondering. I think this could turn into a special year.

Conscious decision. But I haven't heard why they decided to do it. Teams can do a game out of the country every 10 years and maybe they decided to play Lakehead after they've played us so many years in a row in Duluth. I joke it's a 10 for 1 deal we are fulfilling our bargain. Perhaps they wanted something around the holidays to keep the team sharp and be seen in an area where they pick up some recruits.

So a forward, with zero goals in conference play, is the POY? Yeah, I don't see that happening.

No neither do I in the end. But I also don't expect him to go goalless down the stretch. But he might be the best in the league at feeding his linemates. I originally was going to put Toninato but thought I'd probably serve up more discussion with Czarnik. Of course a lot of this is conjection since I've only seen the nationally televised games and not even all of those.

Re: The NCHC Year Two: Haters Please Form A Queue to the Right

Well at least I get an award. DU has people who post? Wouldn't have expected that with a fan base of 23.

No Idea how you can have a Mid-Season awards without Michael Parks (6g-14a—20pts) and Drake Caggiula (8g-15a—23pts) missing from the top team. Their ranked one and two in points. Dominic Toninato is third with (13g-5a—18pts).
