The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

What type of attendance do people think the conference will get at Target center in a few weeks? Can we get 13,000 if UND, SCSU and UMD make it or is that to high? I figure UND will bring 7-8,000. Can the other two schools get 2,000 each? I think 13,000 for both semi finals and then final would be a good weekend of hockey.

PWR is math so I believe Brent is saying you may not like the formula, but you can't claim math as a joke

That wasn't what he said. He said that the wins at home over crummy teams "balanced out". Which isn't necessarily true. And questioning the equation isn't questioning the math. They made tweaks to the RPI formula this year. If the rankings produced by RPI were unimpeachable, they would never make tweaks.

Not sure, but I am very happy it is in Minneapolis. It is way less of a pain in the butt than St. Paul. No need to plunk down $500-$600 on a hotel room. A lot more people should be able to take a cab to and from the games, I think there are more hotels near Target Center than there are near Xcel.

For 3 nights? I never paid more than about 450-500 for a room with 2 beds, and that was at the Crowne Plaza in St Paul. And Target Center sucks for hockey. Plus, no tailgate lots there. Cabs are a wash, IMO, comparing the two cities.

Edit: granted, the "night life" is much better in Mpls, I will say that.

I'll make sure to be a total grump and thus ruin the good night life for Biddy. I guarantee it!

Have him drink 2 Cosmopolitans and he won't remember the night anyways.

I have stayed at the Crowne Plaza, the Embassy Suites, and the Doubletree and I don't think it was ever cheaper than 180 bucks a night. Then again, I usually waited until 2 weeks before the tournament to book a room.

Cabs aren't a wash. Minneapolis is the bigger city and its suburbs are way bigger. If you live West of Minneapolis a cab is twice as expensive from St. Paul. I live in Plymouth. It is a 60-70 dollar cab ride from downtown Minneapolis. From St. Paul it would probably be twice that.

Hotels: there's your first mistake. You can book up to 50 weeks in advance for a room. Honestly, take advantage of that knowledge. I've gotten some great deals over the years.
Cabs: I live in Minnetonka, by Ridgedale. As of 2 years ago, it was about $40 one way to the X for a cab. As of last year, it was $60 from the airport to my place.

If UNO gets there, UNO fan will represent. Trust me. Despite this team's shortcomings, there are many UNO fans, including me, that believe we can win it if we get there. It's what this team and our fans are all currently hanging our collective hats on and Coach Blais has been very public in this sentiment, too.

I'm sure Mpls will welcome all 20 of you. :D

LOL

We travel surprisingly well for a program with not a lot of historical success. I made the trip to Amsoil in Duluth during our last tournament season (2010, when UMD won the title) and, for the Saturday night game, in particular, the number of UNO fans there was nothing short of astounding. Same thing at the actual tourney in St Louis that season against Michigan. I was told by others (I was actually there and didn't see the game on TV) that the announcers for that game made mention of it on the air, even, since we greatly outnumbered the Michigan fans at the game. Not even a contest in that regard, either.

MI doesn't travel extremely well (compared to MN, UND, and to a point, tUMD/MTU).

You guys need to use Priceline's name your own price and you can get a 4.5 star room for $100-120/night easily. We have 2 rooms at the Hotel Ivy for under $500.

I hope UNO is at the Frozen Faceoff (unless it's at the expense of UMD, although a back to back weekend of matchups seems unlikely). They are a great bunch of fans and hopefully will travel well. They travel better than WMU that is for sure.

I work downtown Minneapolis so I am very happy it is here. I get free parking in my work ramp since I already pay for it and it is on the north side of downtown so it is easy to get out after the game. If you sit in the lower bowl all the seats are very good. After the first few rows of upper deck they suck and can't see anything. So get decent seats or you might as well watch on TV.

I'd classify these expectations as "very optimistic". A quick check of the ticket sites paints a pretty grim picture. I think total daily attendance of 8,000 with about half of that indeed, North Dakota faithful. Lower level sides are sold out and a fair chunk of the upper level sides are gone. Corners have plenty still available. Big 10 looks even worse, upper deck is still selling row one, club still has seats even though it's the only level selling beer, and you can get lower level center ice in bands of 8. I'd expect less than 1000 people in the stands at the X for any game not involving the Gophers. Grand Rapids for the WCHA is just plain sad.

Three splintered events where a great epic gathering once stood. Very disappointing.....

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

FYI, the NCHC tourney schedule on the USCHO blog page, here:

http://www.uscho.com/nchc-playoff-central/

Is WRONG.

The UNO/Denver series is Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, if needed, the 13th, 14th, and 15th.

See this link:

http://view.tmclient.ticketmaster.c...362027a7516&camefrom=EMCL_238903_11666702&r=0

MECA, the operating authority for the Clink for the City of Omaha, because they didn't think UNO would get home ice after being picked last in the conference, pre-season, rented the CenturyLink Center out for a Demi Lovato concert on the 16th.

I wish I was kidding, but, I am not.
