The Hockey News Ranks College Jerseys

Re: The Hockey News Ranks College Jerseys

FWIW when it comes to the "Boston" debate, I've seen a lot of America East (you know, our primary conference) publications that just say "Boston", although most say "Boston U."

What the hell is the "America East" what other powerhouses are in that conference? ;)

Re: The Hockey News Ranks College Jerseys

Very similar in style and execution as the classic Habs sweater. That's never a bad thing.

Yup... thats what makes them so cool! (Even though I am a Bruins Fan first and foremost)

Come on... we have Stony Brook and University of Maryland Baltimore County!

Maybe the administration is up to something...

I dont know... I think it's been that way for a long time...

No Notre Dame bias here. Their football team is probably ranked top five too.
It really does get old.

no offense to Notre Dame fans but your jersey are butt ugly. Your school has terrible colors that don't go together and the Font on the front of the jerseys is brutal. I would put Noter Dame probably dead last, not sure how they ended up 1st but whatever.

P.S. Join a conference for football ***... oh yeah you would get worked in the big ten or big east thats right...

Re: The Hockey News Ranks College Jerseys

I actually really like the Notre Dame jerseys- if only for the fact that they have (what I assume is) the school's academic emblem as a shoulder patch. I think that's cool. I wish UW would do something similar. Maybe not with our regular jerseys, but it'd be awesome to see our academic "sheild" emblem incorporated to our third jerseys. Traditionally, you can't possibly make our thirds any uglier.

with the exception of last years 3rd jersey... I haven't seen anything about htis years 3rd jersey yet but the shield would be a neat idea, or a motion W like the womens team has...

Re: The Hockey News Ranks College Jerseys

the black nu jerseys are as cool looking as any other jersey in college hockey.

definitely my favorite jersey. i like how they went old school with the husky logo on the front. i also like bemidji state's away jerseys with the numbers on the front and back. very clean and classic. http://www.uscho.com/images/colorscans/20082009/bsu_daltoncelebrates.jpg

I couldn't disagree more about last year's jersey and the motion W.

At least the ugly "barber pole" designs were going for an old-school kind of look. But these... Bucky's head is a terrible idea for a logo. Use it for kids stuff, sure, but Bucky's disembodied head belongs on a jersey no more than those horrendously ugly thirds we once had that had the huge skating Bucky on them. And then there's the little clawprints... a cute idea. That's right. Cute. That's how my mother-in-law described them. In no way should a hockey jersey ever be described as "cute". Again: that's fine for kids stuff.

As for the motion W... I don't even know where to begin. Seriously, did someone just spend four minutes with the Word Art feature in Microsoft Office and say "hey we got our new logo"? I'd rather use our academic shield logo (which actually looks cool, classy and not childish).

For what its worth, the only third jersey that I've seen that looked any good at all was the one with the baseball lettering that we wore for a few years (we wore them back in the Lambeau game).

Re: The Hockey News Ranks College Jerseys

PC doesn't wear those jerseys any more.

wait, we lost to jerseys that don't exist any more? that's terrible. we'll just have to win another national title to make up for this slight.

anyway, BU's alternate jerseys are the best in Hockey East. other than that, I think Maine's are the best looking. BC's are just flat out ugly.

Re: The Hockey News Ranks College Jerseys

Can you Badger fans post pictures? I'm pretty sure I know what you're talking about but I'm sure there are some jersey designs I've never seen.

Re: The Hockey News Ranks College Jerseys

For those hoping for an explanation about BSU, here's an e-mail resonse I got when I wrote to their editor and asked about it:

Don't worry, Bemidji State is still involved in the tournament. It had been explained to us they were changing conferences (to the WCHA) however, we realized too late that the move wasn't going to be happening until the 2010-11 season.

So, Bemidji State is in with the WCHA rankings which we'll have on the site this Thursday. We'd make the correction, but since the voting has already begun for the CHA Bemidji would be behind the eight-ball.

For those who say that The Hockey News has no clue when it comes to talking about hockey, what EoDS quoted the editor as saying seals the deal: how the hell did they not know that BSU was not moving to the WCHA till the 2010-2011 season? A shame, really.

Re: The Hockey News Ranks College Jerseys

You have to love their ranking criteria. UMass is dead last with "can't do much less", but Vermont is fifth while proving you can easily do much less than UMass.

Re: The Hockey News Ranks College Jerseys

Can you blame THN for not being able to keep up with all of PC's jersey permutations?

Well played.

I'm biased, naturally, but there were a lot of people in this forum who were equally perplexed when THN deemed Puckman the worst logo in the ECAC (behind, oddly enough, a Green D, two Red Cs, and an Orange P), when most of the community thinks Puckman is one of the best in the nation.

I'd thought THN was garbage on college hockey before that, but that really cooked their goose with me.

****, I agree with you. What is the world coming to?

Re: The Hockey News Ranks College Jerseys

A far as the WCHA rankings:
They rank Minnesota #1 for being classic and then rip Wisconsin for being boring? Umm, Wisconsin has been much more consistent when it comes to jersey design than Minnesota has.
What the hell are they talking about for UAA?
The real Bemidji jerseys don't have a Beaver in the center, they have a number. Try using an authentic jersey for these lame arse rankings.

I also like how they rip on Minnesota-Duluth for having the same colors as Minnesota. Shouldn't they complain about Ferris State, Denver and Boston College too?

Otherwise, despite their asinine reasoning, they're about right except for Wisconsin (and Duluth?) being too low and Bemidji too high.

Re: The Hockey News Ranks College Jerseys

At least they used MTU's road blacks, which are definitely the sharpest of our current bunch (though my sentimental favorite is our gold thirds).

I hate to say it, but North Dakota's should be #1.
