“We are not racist. I have all type of friends. Colored friends, Spanish, Chinese…”

They've vilified FDR as "Mao Lite" for decades, that's nothing new.

Like they say Lincoln was Stalin for suspending habeas corpus and not letting the traitors get away with it.

It's like Q calling everyone else brainwashed. To people that far off the grid, everybody else is the radical.

The vilification of ... *checks notes* Franklin Delenor Roosevelt? https://twitter.com/nhannahjones/sta...69428426194945

Funny. I read Zinn, Malcom X and any number of other of these "revisionist historians". Except for the modern embracing of Trump, I absolutely love my country. I may have lost that silly jingoisting "it's the best country in the world" American Exceptionalism nonsense, but that doesn't mean I don't have have a profound love for what we are and where we've been and where we're going.

I hate the right wing idea that if you're exposed to <x> that you immediately become that. The gays hit on you? Uh oh, now you're gay! Read Howard Zinn? Socialist!

On a similar note, I read "The 1619 Project" last month. I found it contained a lot of new insights and information that I was not aware of before, and more information is always helpful in making my own decisions and interpretations of what happened. At no point did I feel guilty for being white or something like that.

It's a question of whether one considers criticism to be an attack or a struggle to understand. And there seem to be two types of people -- those who are curious and want to learn more, and those who are closed and consider any contextualization or god forbid any admission of imperfection as terrifying.

I am starting to believe these two types just pop out of the womb this way. Conservatives appear to simply be, fundamentally, afraid. Of everything: change, difference, criticism, nuance, complexity. The conservative mind simply seems to have frozen at the lowest level of Maslow's Pyramid and never moves beyond "safety." Hence the obsession with guns, commandments, tradition, and revenge.

Well you would if it was you they were talking about. These people don't want their kids to learn about racism because they don't want their kids to come home and ask why they were yelling at a little Black Girl for going to school.

The reason these kids are "coming home crying" (which of course they aren't) is because they realized their parents and their friends are awful people.

What's funny is, outside of that one story where the conservative kid went of Faux whining about being taught he was a racist (he wasn't) most stories I tend to see say kids have no issue whatsoever with learning the truth. As long as it is age appropriate of course, which it always has been.

What's most telling about these nutbars and their fascist overlords in the GOP is that if they actually paid attention in class they would know where this is headed is a full on beat down of them sooner or later. The US is not some small Baltic State or Middle Eastern Country...Authoritarianism might take hold but just like Nazism, Fascism and Stalinism it is doomed to fail sooner or later.

Well, if they owned a natural gas company.

They would have a strongman to knock them around, just like they knock their wives and kids around. They would have rules and structure and a god and divine command ethics. They would be allowed to beat up the people who didn't fit. They would be in their paradise.

In the future we should have countries divided by whether their populations are open and curious or closed and fearful. There can be a Free World of adventurous, creative, tolerant people and an Iron Curtain of cowardly, submissive, traditional people. Everyone would be happy to be in their own world.

13 months? Madison Cawthorne called for one a few weeks ago!

Michigan candidates for the GOP gubernatorial nom were calling for voters to bring guns and to unplug voting machines if they saw anything they didn't like. But don't call them fascists, it hurts their fee-fees.

Is anything actually coming out of these subpoenas? Are people getting charged with contempt when they don't show? Or is this all just theater to make Dems feel righteous?

Bannon did...still waiting on the rest. Meadows I think is the most likely. Its up to the DOJ.
