Laurence Tribe seems to believe that Trump is screwed in GA and that an indictment is coming soon...I find I believe him about half the time but the subpoenas of his lawyers does give me some hope.

note: he will never be convicted in GA unless all of the jurors come from Dem strongholds which is not likely.
 
I think Tribe used to be good, but he's kind of gone off his rocker in the last year. I'd wait and see what the rest of the Lawletariat thinks.
 
Agreed. Though those responding agree...wl the ones who know the prosecutor anyways.

Interesting thought experiment:

Let's say a miracle happens and Trump is indicted. Lets add to said miracle and say the GQP uses that as cover to disqualify him.

(None of which will happen but that is not at issue for this experiment)

It is a lock he runs third party and goes scorched Earth. If that is the case and it's gonna be a 3 way race the Dems must convince Biden not to run. They need a younger candidate who can keep the Dem coalition voting and have the tact to watch the Right eat itself alive. Biden can retire saying he did his job restoring sanity to the office and helped restore the GOP (which is bs but so what) and now his job is done.

Who is the Dem candidate you would want? You don't want and Electoral Crisis because if it ends up in The House the Right will sooner or later cut a deal and Hitler gets to be Chancellor. Who is a candidate who can prevent that?

(Again this is a thought experiment not reality)
 
I'd push for Pete or Newsome. Both have that je ne sais quoi* to help us in the burbs

Everyone else has baggage. Harris has been merely cromulent. Doesn't inspire any confidence. Bernie will be dead. Warren is a shitty candidate. Klobuchar has no personality. The squad is unelectable for legal and other reasons I suppose. When's the last time you heard the word "duckworth"? Booker might be dead. Biden probably will be.

For a situation like that, it would be Pete or Kamala since the each have experience of the campaign trail... In that deal, it becomes having someone who won't fumble as you simply just call easy runs to eat up the clock.

That was actually the name I came up with too...my gf said Mayor Pete after Gavin Newsome.

The problem was then what happens to Harris? I doubt she chooses to be Veep again and she is no longer a Senator. Do they offer her SecState? AG? Does she hope Feinstein retires and run for Senate again?

Harris' baggage is such BS (which of course you know) but there is no way she can be the nominee. Sucks cause I always liked her.

The truth is, the candidate needs to be a non-threatening White Person (God this country is stupid) who is nowhere near AARP aged in appearance. While Mayor Pete is a gay man he also is about as threatening as bowl of Grape Nuts. He also, despite being quite academic, can talk to the average folk who go to diners and get interviewed by the New York Times. He is nowhere near a socialist but doesn't piss off the Left Wing in any way, has those every important "Midwest Values" *gag* and has no issue going on Faux News and answering questions no matter how stupid or gotcha. Honestly I think he is an easy escape hatch for the non-Trumper Right too. (Lincoln Project types)

Would he be my ideal choice all things being equal? Not a chance. But man watching him lap DeSantis and Trump in a debate would be worth the price of admission.
 
Pete? Blech. He may be young and the kind of handsome, clean cut, settled down gay that country club goers accept and approve of, but too many lefties look at him and see yet another privileged, white, male, Ivy League elitist who's been handed everything.

Give it to Harris. She's only 57, attracts a broader demographic, and would likely govern more to the left than Buttigieg (though not anywhere near as left as a President Abrams).
