The Geneseo Ice Knights Thread

Re: The Geneseo Ice Knights Thread

A little bit of housekeeping for Ice Knights fans.

Bring 2 cans of soup to Saturdays game vs. Canton to receive free admission to the game and an Ice Knights rally towel (per twitter.) These will be donated to foodlink.

Re: The Geneseo Ice Knights Thread

For those who have ever listened to a Geneseo game before an interesting bit of trivia:

WGSU (the station that hosts the Ice Knights games) celebrates 50 years on the air this month. Inbetween the second and third period of the game on Saturday (vs. Canton) there was a ceremony to acknowledge the station's contribution to the school and atheletic department.

As far as the hockey itself - probably would give the team about a B or B- for the performance on Friday and about a C- for the game on Saturday. So not their best by any means, but I'll take the 2 wins no question. Friday's game against Plattsburgh will probably decide the 2nd seed. Getting the bye and home ice for the semi is very important. The top 3 teams look so close to me that may be the deciding factor.

Re: The Geneseo Ice Knights Thread

I had the game up Saturday, and flipping back and forth as I heard cheers from the crowd. Did Canton have a 4th goal disallowed? Or was there just a great save in the 3rd that the crowd reacted to? I swear I saw a goal?

Disallowed. The puck was in the net, but there was a penalty on Canton before they knocked it in.

Re: The Geneseo Ice Knights Thread

Nice to see Geneseo return to the polls again this week. Well deserved #14. Onward and upwards!

Edit: they're #12 on the "other" site

Re: The Geneseo Ice Knights Thread

It should be an interesting and meaningful game tonight. Cardinals need to rebound from pitiful loss to Fredonia. Geneseo smelling home ice and first round bye. All the ingredients are there. Good for Genny, and their coach. I like what he's done with the team. They should be respected......and then beaten!!

As a fan, I love the direction the program is heading in. Seems like for the most part every year the talent has been steadily increasing since bottoming out in '07 - '08 with the 3 coaches in 3 years. Been a couple years that the wins haven't come in the numbers we would have liked (sanctions, injuries, etc) but Schultz appears to be building a big time program.

Definitely, looking forward to tonight's game. Neutral ice these teams are probably dead even. I would probably give Plattsburgh a slight edge tonight because of the home ice, but I certainly think Geneseo could come out with a W. Great night for a hockey game with the weather. Looking forward to getting home from work and watching the game.

Be safe if you're driving to the game. :)

Re: The Geneseo Ice Knights Thread

I could hit a 7 iron to the Stafford from my front porch! No driving for this cat tonight.

There is no neutral ice at Stafford, so Genny may be in trouble ;)

Re: The Geneseo Ice Knights Thread

The postseason starts tonight for the Ice Knights. The good news is that we definitely will not be looking past Potsdam as Potsdam beat Geneseo a few weeks back. Key to the game IMO is Geneseo asserting itself as the better team early. Potsdam seems to have some talent (see their 4-3 OT victory over us), but doesn't really have the mentality/confidence to hang in games once down (see 10-0 against Oswego.)

I don't see it being a blowout. Just never seems to work that way in the playoffs. I'll say 4-2 Geneseo.

I didn't see it being a blowout either, but there you have it (9-0). Nice final game at the Ira for the seniors.

Re: The Geneseo Ice Knights Thread

Caradonna's a stud. The only sophomore among all seniors or juniors on the first team.

Re: The Geneseo Ice Knights Thread

Never happier to be wrong on a prediction. Geneseo played great tonight. Should be a good one in Plattsburgh on Saturday.

The last team to beat Potsdam by 9+ goals, lost to Plattsburgh their next game....and it was a good one!:D

Re: The Geneseo Ice Knights Thread

Congratulations to the team on a great season, and to Coach Schultz for winning his second well-deserved SUNYAC Coach of the Year award.
