The end of leagues as we know?

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

NEW CCHA
BGSU, FSU, UAH, NU, RIT, Robert Morris (I think I picked 3 AH teams wanting to spend.) If an Alaska school comes in pull another AH team that wants to spend. This actually fixes a current Atlantic Hockey problem

I think this would be an interesting conference. Niagara would certainly jump at this, as would UAH. I don't know about Bobby Mo but I have a hard time seeing RIT go for this. Without athletic scholarships, I'm not sure how competitive RIT would be. There are also travel considerations. RIT replaces Air Force with UAH and the New England schools for FSU. Figure RIT will still need to get 14 non-con games and that gets interesting.

Well... the solution is for RIT to get scholarships or move to D1... but I dont see either of those happening anytime soon unless the NCAA and RIT come to some weird arrangement.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Go for the 2 autobids out of the gate.
NEW WCHA
SCSU, MSU-M, BSU, NMU, MTU, LSSU, UAA, UAF, (if Alaska teams continue to cover travel) Maybe some sort of travel partner thing. If MSU-Moorhead goes Div 1 bounce an Alaska school to the CCHA.

The idea is to maximize NCAA tournament exposure with the existing league autobids. If you go east-west format you only keep the one bid of the 2 you already have. The bonus is to stick it to the BTHC and BHHC by consuming slots these “small” schools used to have a hard time getting.

You're probably right that at least one of the current leagues will continue to exist (like ECAC out east), and you're probably more right than I'd like for the leagues. But... ouch. SCSU and UAF being the headliners of the WCHA, with NMU and MTU as the also-rans, BSU and MSU in off-years, and UAA and LSSU along for the ride? You're still working with the two Alaskas in the same league too, and something tells me that one or the other will skip to the BHHC in a few years. LSSU isn't staying for long either :(

Your CCHA just hurts, though it's probably pretty accurate too. Regarding RIT, toss them in favor of Canisius and Mercyhurst, since RIT is scholarship-limited as D-3 while the other two wanted full-scholly leagues. I think the only way the CCHA will survive the next decade is by being the new CHA, but it hurts to see.

Meanwhile, the BHHC won't do as well as it hopes - Denver, NoDak, Notre Dame, Duluth and Miami will get tired of beating each other up for NCAA berths, and no one will draw as well as they used to. Fast forward five years and the western BH schools split back to a relatively healthy WCHA, the eastern ones pick up the CCHAers, and with a few slight alterations and at least three teams missing, we're back to the post-Big Twenve hockey landscape. May as well save the trouble and skip redrawing the leagues now.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

not likely to happen, but I'd love to see the WCHA add Air Force and Army.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

In the end, the only sure thing was to add Miami. This makes motivations pretty obvious. Its not about adding Miami...but shedding a handful of other programs.

Hang on, hang on, hang on, I can't stand all this butthurt sober...........

All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten
by Robert Fulghum

Most of what I really need
To know about how to live
And what to do and how to be
I learned in kindergarten.
Wisdom was not at the top
Of the graduate school mountain,
But there in the sandpile at Sunday school.

These are the things I learned:

Share everything.
Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life -
Learn some and think some
And draw and paint and sing and dance
And play and work everyday some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out into the world,
Watch out for traffic,
Hold hands and stick together.
Be aware of wonder.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

The only legal options that MTU, SCSU, MSU, BSU, and UAA have is potentially filing suit against Bruce MacLeod for failing to represent the best interests of the members of the WCHA. I mean the guy is listed in the DU athletics directory.

I like to share my beer with people.

Let me know if that works. Right now I'm stuck with kicking Anastos and Pletsch in the nuts repeatedly.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Look, most people will tell you that on these boards I can be a ******. It is mostly a schtick but I accept I am an *** a lot of the time. I was very vocal that the WCHA would be fine without the Gophers and BADgers, I still think it would be a top conference especially in the early years of the BTHC where who knows what can happen. I didnt think they would be a powerhouse always, but they definitely would have been better than a mid-major conference and better than this craptastic super league which is not even close to super.

I mean this wholeheartedly, there is no sarcasm, no jokes, no irony, no schtick...this whole thing really sucks! I have no love lost for SCSU but I can tell you that right now I would pay money to watch them in their arena if it will help. Same holds true for MSUM, BSU and all the rest of the "leftovers" that are being bent over. I dont like the BTHC, I knew it was coming and that I and my team was powerless to stop it so I accepted it. I also figured UND and Denver would do what is in everyone's (including their own) best interest and keep the WCHA around which in 5 years most likely would benefit from the loss of the Big Ten schools. They didn't and now they are all offended because in truth their choice (and that is what it is a choice...Wisconsin and Minne had no choice which doesnt excuse them but differentiates the two) makes them the biggest ******'s on the block.

I dont believe in conference loyalty, I hate every team in the WCHA and the Big Ten...but I will support the old WCHA schools left in the cold by a bunch of small dicked schools who think they are more important than they are. I want to put how I truly feel about the BHHC but I would get banned in about 5 minutes.

I am sure the SCSU fans and the rest could care less what I think (and the BHHC fans will just pretend like their opinion means something even though it wont to me) but I stand with you guys. Sounds like SJHovey does too as do a few others. You guys deserve way better than to be screwed this way.

Whew! I've been waiting all day to hear what you think. I also want to ask you the same question everyone else is asking after reading your post:

"Who?.....cares."

Apparently you did since you felt the need to comment.

And by everyone else did you mean the voices in your head or the 12 people in the meth lab in your basement? :D
