The end of leagues as we know?

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

If UND/DU wants him gone then tell the other schools he is gone or we are gone. It's really not going to be hard to get the other schools to agree...

Which makes you wonder... if there truly are some legs to this story of the BHHC, then it's not just some ploy to make McLeod resign. IMO, they don't have to go this far to get McLeod to resign, unless he's foolishly calling their bluff.

Can I have a bite of that?

CHN said there was a story coming on McLeod, so we may find out soon.

Hell, right now I think SCSU, MSU-M, BSU, MTU and maybe even tUMD as an insurance bet would agree to holding the tourney at the Ralph and the Pepsi Center alternating years after the X contract runs out if they'd stay.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Since the WCHA and its teams apparently can not live without Minnesota, our arrogance all these years is justified. :D

We were all fine with you and UW gone. Was looking to a rodent-free Final Five. Its everything else that's the issue.

McLeod was the former AD at Duluth. Hard to see him sticking around if the Bulldogs leave the conference.

The frustration with McLeod revolved around his inability to broker a deal to get Minnesota & Wisconsin to stay or affiliate the Big Ten under the WCHA umbrella. There's probably more to it than that, but that's what I heard towards the end of the season.

If you look back at the way the events unfolded, and the WCHA was an eight-team league today, the super conference might of had a harder time gaining traction. DU, UND, CC, MSUM, SCSU, MTU, UAA & UMD is a pretty good looking conference. Bemidji and UNO were a little tough to swallow within months of Sconnie & Minnesota bolting. The irony is that UNO has a first-class facility and once thay started packing 8,000 fans in the barn against DU & UND they became an attractive target. Bemidji also has a first-class barn and today they are in a great position to land in a new conference.

McLeod is probably copping the blame for lifting the expansion memorandum and then losing the leagues two most visible members.

The rest of us just realized that as soon as MN and WI jumped ship, DU and UND would have to get in a dick measuring contest with the B1G mistake.

There was NOTHING McLeod could have done to keep those two from moving to the Big Ten.

Clearly. But when you're CEO and you lose your two biggest customers you are going to have your leadership questioned.

Clearly, but when you're CEO and you lose your two biggest customers you have to be held accountable.
With absolutely no respect whatsoever, this is a terrible comparison. The teams/schools aren't the WCHA's customers, they are franchises or distributors associated with the WCHA. McLeod lost his 2 best distributors to a competitor, which was completely out of his control. It is the remaining distributors' responsibility to fill that void for the better of the whole organization.

Wha... WHAT?!? So the WCHA is a strong enough league to stand pat at the 8 left minus the new-comers, BUT with the lowly BSU and UNO they aren't strong enough, BUT that lowly UNO is good enough take with them? And McLeod gets blamed for MN and UW, which he couldn't have possibly stopped, nor could they have?!? Please, stop posting while I'm in front of a desk this hard, my head is starting to kill me.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

I can't tell if sarcasm is being thrown in this statement or not. One could say that the BTHC is the catalyst for the possible "ruin" of hockey. So if anything, blame the catalyst. :)

Yeah I think we might want to blame the BTHC or B1G mistake first.

Mistakes were made. McLeod was on watch when the WCHA imploded. How much, if any, was his fault is for you to decide.

The WCHA has not imploded yet! The loss of 2 teams is not an implosion! If Florida and Alabama left SEC football would the SEC be imploded? Hell no. It would be just fine with LSU and Auburn carrying the flag, just like the WCHA would be.

And please tell us how McLeod could have prevented the Big 10 from forming a hockey conference once the requisite six schools had hockey programs? Convince Minnesota and Wisconsin to leave the Big 10?

If recent history is any guide, who's to say Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Arkansas wouldn't try and dump Kentucky, Vandebilt, South Carolina and add Texas and Oklahoma and form a super conference? These are the times we live in.

This is why it appears he is about to be Commissioner of a five-team hockey conference and is rumored by CHN to be quitting.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Really Cal and Arizona are to blame. Had they kept the Great West Conference alive, we wouldn't have these issues.
