The dog days of MSU Spartan offseason

Re: The dog days of MSU Spartan offseason

The 2010/2011 roster.

A few key guys have put on some needed weight. The team will have 2 true seniors. As discussed, the younger Chelios is listed as defenseman and forward.

It will be interesting to see where he plays and also who the guys will be that have to sit out most of the season..

Re: The dog days of MSU Spartan offseason

Torey Krug (a sophomore) has been named captain, while Gazley and Nill will wear the 'A'.

The white helmets are fine, but I feel they'll look rather out of place with our green sweaters unless we've commissioned Nike-Bauer to make away helmets in the new green. (I doubt this, as that'd be notably more expensive than buying stock headgear in white.)

Also, congrats to Krug for earning his "C."

I actually think those uniforms look pretty sharp. A white helmet is going to be strange indeed but i think it goes well with those homes.

I don't know what the helmet plan for the roads are but i still like the idea of having two completely different jersey designs rather than just a color inverse thing.

My ideal combination for the road:

Spartan green helmets.
Script "Michigan State" sweaters.

Another acceptable road theme would be block "Michigan State" on the front.

Whatever else, please don't combine white helmets and green uni's.

Captain-led practice yesterday and the troops look like they're nearly at full speed with odd-man-rush drills. Two numbers really stood out - #2 (Sandmeyer) and #14 (Josepher). Don't know who #28 is though. Johnstone?

25 days before that Green vs. White scrimmage!

Finally headed out to Munn to see the new ice. I think i actually like the new helmet logo at center ice though it not fitting completely in the circle is a bit odd. I imagine it must be an odd shape to fit well within a circle but i still liked it. I also really like the blank boards. Hope they keep them that way...

I am quite excited for this season to get underway. Despite some important losses i think what we have is all around solid. Hope none of the guys pulled a Tater Tot Forcier over the summer.:D

Re: The dog days of MSU Spartan offseason

Well, we are starting to approach the time before the season where i start looking at our schedule and roster on a near daily basis, as well as those of other CCHA and WCHA teams and i noticed a couple things about our schedule. Also it's probably about time for a bump with this thread.

We only have two true home and home weekends; one against ferris and one against michigan. For some reason i feel like that is a lot less than normal. Also, a series against Ferris is split up over the year between a Tuesday night home game and a thursday night away game later in the year. I dislike this for a couple reasons: One being that it tends to be bad for attendance and the other is that i worry about our energy as we travel for the showcase a couple days later after playing 3 games in 5 days. I sort of like these because for me, it nicely breaks up my school week with something to look forward to besides just the weekend.

Also, i really hope attendance up a little bit after last year's mostly exciting and successful bounce back season but i am not gonna hold my breath on this one...
