Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Any best guessestimate as to when they will reveal the selection? I imagine tonight sometime. Does the commitee actually meet someplace or is it all done in conference calls?

I think it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-7 PM, maybe a bit later.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Two teams from the West will be in Lake Placid.

Adrian at SNC

STU at GAC

There is no way the West will have both Play-In games. SNC and Adrian might be the top two teams in the tournament.

The NCAA will get it right. The eastern teams will be in the play in games.

Westcout

Adrian is going to be a top team in the tournament? I doubt it...unless you mean "from the west" but if west gets four teams in then Adrian will be "seeded" 3rd or 4th I would guess in the west. Out east a number of teams would be higher up in the tournament.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

That may be a bit optimistic

edit: referring to the time estimate, not adrian's seeding

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Last year it was around 7 or 730 when we finally found out the pairings. Go Bulldogs!

Yeah, that does sound about right. I think we spent the remainder of the afternoon and evening fighting with everyone else. :p

Supposedly 6 pm...I remember getting it official at nearly 11pm one year! Best to keep an eye on the boards to find those "insiders" ;) I usually always find out the bracket on the forum rather than NCAA.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Last year was one of the earliest in recent memory.

Things may shape up the same this year, or you may have a dogfight that takes us to a more 'traditional' late night determination.

It's anyones guess at this point.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Quick question as I can't really remember how this went down way back when: would the call happen this late in the day regardless of conference tournament statuses, or do we just have to wait this long because of the NESCAC's Sunday Spectacular?

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

The announcers at the Bowdoin - Midd game speculated that they are playing for home ice advantage for the Wednesday play-in game, where they could possibly have a replay of todays game.....Weird huh?

Not half as weird as some posts suggesting that SNC, the #3 seed in the group should have to play a play in game!

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

From the blog:

OK, so let’s take a shot at a possible bracket. I think no matter who wins the NESCAC final, both Middlebury and Bowdoin get seeded higher than Plattsburgh

E1: Norwich
E2: Oswego
E3: Middlebury
E4: Bowdoin
E5: Plattsburgh
E6: Manhattanville
E7: Curry

W1: St. Norbert
W2: Gustavus Adolphus
W3: Adrian
W4: St. Thomas

First Round:
Curry at Oswego
Manhattanville at Middlebury
Plattsburgh at Bowdoin

Semifinals:
Bowdoin/Plattsburgh at Norwich
Elmira/Middlebury at Oswego/Curry
St. Thomas at Gustavus Adolphus (wait, what?)
Adrian at St. Norbert (these two get switched due to “Geographic Proximity”, which the NCAA is allowed to do.)

So it makes more sense to have the #2, 4, and 5 seeds play in play-ins? And at the same time give byes to #7, 9, and 10 seeds?

I fail to see the logic in any of that, unless there is some sense on entitlement going on. (IE: X region has less teams than Y region so we deserve the byes, even though 75% of X's teams haven't earned one this season)

Last season the west was very strong, and got the byes into the Quarters, and rightfully so. This year, aside from St. Norbert, the next best team in the west is GAC who would rank 5th at best in the east.

Everyone needs to drop the bias for a minute and think in a logical manner. (Pipe dream, I know). But given the system that we are under thanks to the NCAA, the most logical scenario in order get as many of the top 5 teams byes as possible would be to have 2 play ins out west.

Which is not half as weird as speculating that the #1 ranked team in the land should have a play in game instead.   the choice seems to be - give a playin game to Norwich (or maybe Oswego) or to SNC.

I wish Elmira would be playing at Midd.
