Labour candidate Bev Craig dogwalks Reform candidate in Manchester mayoral by-election, winning 47-21 in the first round and 66-34 in the second.
 
He chose to run in Clacton because it's the easiest seat for him to win. He doesn't live there. He has spent roughly the same amount of time there as I have. Even now he isn't campaigning there; he is letting surrogates do it for him. With him against 33 joke candidates he should win >85% of the vote. Even against serious candidates he should win. Instead he is fighting against a bin and even if he wins, he loses because he's not going to get 85%. He's not even going to get 70%. He might not even get 60%. Assuming he does win this by-election, the legal and parliamentary investigations against him will continue and he will likely be removed from Westminster next year. If he fights another by-election and Labour has any brains, they'll let the Tories field his only real challenger and clean his clock.

The best case for Farage is that he wins this by-election but doesn't try when he is removed next year. The second best result is that he loses to the trash can and steps out of the limelight, possibly moving to Thailand or something. Losing to Count Binface would not be the first embarrassing result of his career. In 2010 he challenged John Bercow and wound up not only losing to Bercow, but getting fewer votes than a dolphin.

Manchester's about the worst possible place for Reform, right? Don't they have a proud tradition of white urban factory socialism that is utterly absent from the US?

The German government is drawing up contingency plans in the event that individual federal states obstruct the deployment of NATO troops. According to information from WELT and The Telegraph, several government departments are examining how military mobility can be ensured even if a state government refuses to cooperate.

This is against the backdrop of the AfD’s expected electoral successes in eastern Germany and concerns that Germany’s role as the alliance’s logistical hub could be jeopardised in an emergency, as an AfD-controlled state government could delay the movement of troops, weapons and vehicles needed to defend NATO territory and the eastern flank.

In the event of a Russian attack on NATO’s eastern flank, Germany would be the alliance’s central logistical hub. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers from other NATO countries, along with heavy equipment and weapons, would be deployed via Germany. Western politicians and military officials fear that this is precisely where Russian President Vladimir Putin might intervene to paralyse NATO by exploiting political differences.

For Putin, “it may not even be the aim to defeat NATO militarily”, as this would be a difficult undertaking, said a source from a Western country familiar with defence planning. “But if he succeeds in identifying and deepening political divisions within the alliance, then that is the quickest way to break up the alliance,” the source said.

From Moscow’s perspective, it could be “very effective” to make use of Kremlin-friendly politicians to delay the rapid deployment of NATO troops.

The fact that a trash bin gets more than a handful of votes should be incredibly embarrassing for Farage, but he continues to gaslight people that Binface represents the establishment and he's the plucky outsider.

The ballot has been printed. It is nearly 3 feet long. Binface is 3rd on the ballot; Farage is halfway down. The Count will get a non-zero vote increase from people too lazy to read the entire thing and just check his name.
 
I'm surprised they don't have lot printing with randomized order. I thought all paper ballots were like that. I'm used to large cities in the 80s though. In metro Boston in the early 90s no two ballots were the same, it was wild.

I don't know how primaries work, but for general elections in NYS, the order of the parties listed are based on the most recent gubernatorial voting.
 
Just in case you thought our politics are the most insane, England steps up to the challenge!

The leader of the Restore party, Rupert Lowe, gave an interview on BBC radio where he proclaimed that King Charles wasn't white.
 
His rant was responded to by presenter Mr Robinson who said: “You're a man with money and a grudge and a social media account who airs his prejudices on X and gets a hearing because you've got the backing of Elon Musk.”

The irony is Robinson was a member of the Conservatives when he was in high school and was even the president of the Conservative Association at Oxford before becoming a journalist.

I suppose only conservative media are allowed to be so pointed with conservative politicians...
