The Countries: Forget it, Burkina Faso, Michigan is still the worst.

The World Bank guy on BBC just said "we have to think creatively" and "this could trigger new investments."

Nobody in the ruling class has had the least geopolitical understanding since Metternich.

I did not have global warming being solved by nuclear winter on my bingo card.
This has been a staple of rightwing "humor" for years.

It’s worth noting that even a small nuclear exchange limited to just India and Pakistan probably sends the world into a real bad place. Nine to ten figure death toll.

Holy shit, the intro to the conflict on India Today just now makes anything on Fox News look like a bad high school A/V project. I hope China can settle them down or there's going to be a few mushroom clouds over the region soon

So, what exactly is India and Pakistan trying to accomplish? Or, didn't they see the results of Ukraine, Gaza, Iraq, and Afghanistan from recent history?
Imagine two demcratic-ish countries dominated by Dump-like parties, so the leader has to constantly project DURR I AM STRONG DURR, with enormous numbers of Likudlike nationalist-religious sociopaths baying for heathen blood.

Texas at war with Mississippi over control of Louisiana. And everybody has nukes.

Well, if China doesn't want to die they'll have to figure it out. The United States is not reliable, nor does it give a shit anymore about the rest of the World.
I don't know what leverage China has, or what effective tools they have. As you say, we are useless now. This is China's first test as the de facto new world #1.

It is interesting to see the Modi NDTV coverage. It is just like Putin RT, Dump Fox or Bibi Channel 14.

Any Indian missile strike is on "terror camps." Even if it's a hospital and all the casualties are children.

Those terror children. Ya really gotta watch em.

You really could just boil it down to this, and throw in religion and a shitty colonial exit by the limeys.

Pakistan wants Kashmir because it's majority Muslim. India wants Kashmir, ostensibly because it was historically part of "their" territory, but mainly because they fear Muslims. Both wanted to rig the 1947 Kashmir referendum established by the Brits, so Pakistan sent in militia groups and India responded by getting the last prince of Kashmir to request help from the Indian military. Two years later, the UN established the Line of Control and it's been that way ever since.

I suppose China could do a fait accompli: send 50 million men (that's, like, one small Chinese town) into Kashmir, declare a referendum, let the troops vote, and vote for independence as a buffer state completely within their sphere of influence. Keep a garrison and tell both dot and towel: ATTEMPT NO LANDING HERE.
