The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

Over a half hour into this edition of SportsCenter and the only acknowledgement of the NHL lockout tentatively being settled has been 5 seconds via the crawl.
It's showing in the upper-left corner on CNN's homepage this morning.

And ESPN has a stated mission of only promoting those sports and leagues for which it has some financial tie. It's a stance that started almost 15 years ago. Since the station doesn't air either college hockey or NHL, they will not air hockey coverage. Get over it. C'est la vie. Stop watching the network.

Please show me where ESPN has actually "stated" this mission. Trust me I know the reality of what ESPN is all about. Hell, if they were to be so bold as to actually say "we don't cover the news of what we don't carry", I could at least respect them for putting their mouths where the money was. In actuality, ESPN likes to present itself as providing sound and balanced news coverage of all sports and constantly issues public denials that they favor sports and leagues with which they have a financial interest in. That myth played a large part some years ago when ESPN trumpeted the arrival of their very own ombudsman. And they do air college hockey, even if it is limited to three games a season. Three rather important games. I have stopped watching, by the way, to the extent I stated. I'm not going to avoid tuning in Monday night at 8:30 because cutting off your nose to spite your face makes no sense, but you can be sure I won't be tuning in for any of the pre-game festivities.

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

I'm numb to the way the motherships treatment of hockey. I used to complain, but nothing we can do. I think people want the old days of the big show where they treated stories based on merit not coverage rights. The only thing that annoys me is there was no NBA was tarnished story like they have with hockey. However, that's out of the ESPN playbook.

I can't stand the way ESPN promotes the NBA. Basketball is a great sport but the NBA is marketed more like a reality TV series. I guess that is what sells these days.

So I heard that ESPN included Isaackson's goal from last night against Notre Dame in their daily top 10 list. I didn't get to see the game, and will have to find a link to that goal. It must be just phenomenal in order to get a mention on ESPN.

It was a sweet goal, but it wasn't any better than probably 10-20 others that have been scored in college hockey this season. Tech had a goal on the top 10 earlier this season, against Minnesota, and I saw a save by Slubowski on it during the GLI.

I never watch ESPN, so I didn't know about those. I just heard about this on 93X's sports segment this morning while driving to work.

Here's a post with video of the goal, if people are interested.
Must have been a slow newsday for SC to show college hockey. Isackson has excellent stickhandling skills. With more experience, he'll be a huge asset in the next few seasons for the Gophers.

Apparently they had a segment that showed all the highlights from the game.

I don't watch either. I saw people talking about the Tech goal being on there, so I looked it up after the fact, and for the Slubowski save, I saw on Twitter that, I think, Bucigross said that there would a GLI play on the top 10 that night, so I tuned in for that segment.

dx, it must be the Notre Dame factor. Its a big enough name for ESPN to ignore that it is a sport they despise.

It may also have been a slow day for the nba and college bb, plus having two named (and topped ranked) hockey programs play I'm sure was a factor.

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

Glad the BCS Title game is over. That was taking valuable TV time away from their coverage of the New York Jets.

Good goal, but Ohio State's Ryan Dzingel sick goal for the hat trick against Penn State at the Three Rivers Classic was better.

Unfortunately, Root Sports had the video rights so there's no highlight video. Hate to say it, but he dangled just about everyone in blue before banking it past Matt Skoff and in off the skate of Casey Bailey.

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

There was a press conference held by the NHL today to announce the owners OK's the CBA. Live coverage on the Extreme Sports and Poker Network? HA!!!

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

So is this thread now for posting pictures of hot sports reporters?
Not that there is anything wrong with that!

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

As much as we gripe about E$PN, the house organ for the NHL, the NHL Network, did a lousy (read zero) job in covering the lockout. They did not even cover the pressers announcing the end of the lockout or the ratifications of the MOU.

Now Kathryn Tappen is good looking.

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

I may hate ESPN's placement of hockey on SportsCenter, but there's no denying how funny this is.
