The 2015-16 Schedules Thread

That's stupid.

Obviously, you've never heard of the Iron Bowl. It's that little football game between Alabama (Roll Tide!) and Auburn played on Saturday the 28th. It enraptures the entire state. If you're in Alabama, you're either at the game or watching the game. Expecting to draw any kind of crowd against that game would be, in your words, stupid. Get to know a little of the culture of the state before using such terms. In the opinion of this former Bama resident, it's a great move by EJ Brophy, Mike Corbett & Tom Serratore.

A better move would be to build a schedule where that is a bye week, or an away series.

Thats probably unlikely to happen very often due to the fact that some schools tend to have breaks that week and teams visiting UAH appreciate additional travel time because there are no classes to miss.

What makes other schools desire to travel on Thanksgiving weekend any more important than Huntsville's desire to not play at home that weekend? So far, only one WCHA team has visited Huntsville over Turkey Break.

Each school is allowed to make one specific scheduling request to the league each year, whether to play at home on a specific weekend or to not play at home at a certain time. Requests are not guaranteed. I could see it being a 50/50 split of home and road series for Thanksgiving Breaks. If UAH is at home, I can see this scheduling arrangement (Wed/Fri) used again if the night before Thanksgiving game shows better than Iron Bowl Saturday.

I would imagine that UAH is picking up the tab for the extra day of hotel & meals.

Re: The 2015-16 Schedules Thread

That answers the question on the 4 teams AHA teams play four times. They change yearly. AIC only played Holy Cross 2 times last year.

Yes, I am kind of surprised on how they did it. Holy Cross played 2 @ Army last year, and are doing 2 @ Army again this year. At the very least I expected them to host Aemy twice this year. Some teams HC played 4 times last year they play 4 times again, but not all.

Out of curiosity for doing these in future years, would one of you be able to explain how we know which ones are 4 times and which are two? I know that it's 11 teams in the league, therefore 20 games are known (two vs. each conference member), with eight left over. If that's four choices out of ten possibilities, and I'll just make an assumption that fours last year won't happen this year (please correct me if I'm incorrect in that assumption), how would we know? Is there some disjunctive inference I've yet to find?

Also, apologies to all for not getting the spreadsheet updated yesterday; real life comes before USCHO life. I'll try to get it in tonight.

I don't think there is a way to know. I honestly assumed it would change every 2 years. Year 1: Play teams 1, 2, 3, 4 home twice, away twice. Play teams 5, 6, 7 home twice each. Play teams 8, 9, 10 away twice. Year 2: Teams 1-4 still 2 home, 2 away. 5,6,7 are now away, 8, 9, 10 are now home, twice each. Then for year 3 they change. But clearly this is not the case

Holy Cross 2014-2015
4 games (2 home, 2 away):
Bentley
Niagara
RIT
Sacred Heart

2 Home:
AIC
Air Force
Robert Morris

2 Away:
Army
Canisius
Mercyhurst

Holy Cross 2015-2016 (Teams in bold are same as 14-15)
4 games (2 home, 2 away):
AIC
Air Force
Canisius
Sacred Heart

2 Home:
Niagara
Mercyhurst
Robert Morris

2 Away:
Army
Bentley
RIT

OK. I remember with the CCHA and WCHA that they had (and in the case of WCHA, may still have) a sort of "pod" format where, over a certain number of years, you would play every league opponent four times in an equal number of years. Perhaps AHC is implementing something similar, and given the current setup, over the course of five years, you would see each league opponent four times in a year twice?

Whoa! I missed that fact. Something is terribly amiss with the way the AHA is doing things if HC's schedule is correct.

Fixed your post

Actually, he's right, maybe. Atlantic Hockey switched from AHA to AHC this past season, although there wasn't much announcement and even just looking at the website they can't get it right. In the press release about the media relations director resigning it refers to the league as the Atlantic Hockey Conference, AHC, and AHA, while the league is still formally known as the Atlantic Hockey Association, Inc. and a lot of other areas on the site still refer to it as AHA.

Re: The 2015-16 Schedules Thread

After entering everything, I'm thinking it's a safe bet that Notre Dame/WMU is going to be part of a home/home; I'll pencil it in on the bottom, but don't know the date yet. If I had to take a guess, WMU/Clarkson will probably be 23-24 October. As much as it COULD be 18-19 December, it seems unlikely.

That's what was reported in the BG schedule. I don't see too much of a better place for it, aside from just before Christmas. I'm anticipating Clarkson to be on that open October weekend.
