It's that time of year again. The USCHO Nerds league, founded in 2002, is open for business and accepting registrations.

Up to 16 teams will be accepted, head-to-head format. We ran with 14 last year. Registration is first-come, first serve.

Draft date is slated for Monday, March 23, 7:30 p.m. EST.

I'll send reminders through this thread periodically.

It's always been a fun, yet competitive league.

Looking forward to another season.

My flawless plan will be to win it all this year (once I come up with a flawless plan). But can we move the playoffs up by a week to avoid all the craziness of star players getting benched and pitchers skipping their turns? Thanks for considering it.
Also, how many innings/week were required last year? Whatever it was, I suggest reducing by 2 or 4 at this roster size, with starters getting pulled earlier than they did in the days of Old Hoss Radbourn.

It drives all my pitching strategy. I thought that's what it was for, TBH. It makes you worry about down-ticket starters. Otherwise whoever happened to draw the best non-injured starters would clean up without having to do anything. That's already a problem with hitting because power is so overstrengthed.

tl; dr: It's a pain and that's good. Keep it at 35.

My only complaint with the rules is that power dominates everything in hitting. Perhaps that is fortuitous since it reflects current boring baseball reality, but it makes setting out lineups much more chalk.

Micromanagement is good and should be rewarded.

These are very good points. It's at 34 Min. now, I'm happy with that if it was 35 last year.

GM should be allowed to decide what they value.

Want to go with closers and pile short innings, fine
Starts and go for W and KO, ok
Mix of both and look to get a majority, perfect
Play someone who gives in and doesn’t meet the min - allowing a team to sweep all the points, UGH
....this really doesn’t protect the league.

Also good points. As long as we're counting losses and hits against, an innings limit is extra regulation. Let's knock it down a couple more.

No, this is an innings floor, not ceiling. The fact that losses and hits count is why we need a floor.

Negligent players are a wash -- you don't protect the league by not punishing them. If anything you incentify them to take weeks off.

Also, it's important to maintain a balance to look something like a real baseball team. You shouldn't be able to overload either SP or RP for the same reason you have to start a guy at every position. To abandon that is not "flexibility," it's defeating the cardinal premise of the simulation.

You're right, it's the W's and K's (maximize innings) which are counter incentives to L's and Total Bases (minimize innings).

Even when I know I’m being scammed, I get all excited reading fantasy baseball clickbait stories: Justin Smoak is going to turn it around! Miguel Cabrera is in the best shape of his life! Willie Calhoun will score a hundred runs! Tatis jr is going to flop!

The more the merrier. But please don't recruit friends who quit in the middle of the season. That's worse than not having them in at all.

Yes, I think this is very good. I wish speed and pure hitting were more important but that's not the model's problem, it's the way baseball is currently played and it is being accurately modeled.

Last season was the first time I can remember that final week being a disaster given all the "workload management" that kept star position players and starting pitchers on the bench. I will move the playoff dates if that's what the majority wants (though I may do it anyway since this seems to be the new trend.)

Being old and senile, I can never remember what the innings pitched floor was from the year before and usually estimate what it should be. I know it's been as high as 40 (too much) and as low as 34 (which seems about right). Again, the trend toward starters being lifted early has changed, but middle relievers are getting more work. It's currently at 34 and we won't go lower, but will consider more (35-38 seems fair) if that's what folks want.
