I'm cool with keeping Wyoming as a sort of Free Market Theme Park. Also, the west brings something to the table: beautiful scenery. The south brings nothing but beautiful women, who we'll get after secession anyway since they follow the money, and they're not going to want to stay in the Caliphate.
Unless they are enslaved, in which case there'd be a need for another underground railroad (they're more than welcome to use my place to escape from the tyrannical southerners). :p

Shh. I live right on the slave/free border. Way ahead of you.

In your case, wouldn't it be left?? ;)

The river bends at POR, so it is, ironically, right. ;)

Aren't you married? That nullifies any strategic advantage your residence provides you, does it not (unless of course it's a Clinton style marriage...)? :p

"We have to shrink the size of government!"

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Although already rare in Missouri, women seeking late-term abortions would face even more restrictions under legislation given final approval Thursday by state lawmakers who have been attempting for decades to gradually make it more difficult for abortions to occur.

The legislation sent to the governor would remove a general exception for a woman's health from an existing law against aborting viable fetuses. Instead, it would allow such abortions only when a woman's life is endangered or the pregnancy poses a serious risk of a permanent physical impairment.

Doctors who abort a viable fetus when a woman does not qualify for an exception could face prison sentences of up to seven years, fines up to $50,000 and the loss of their medical licenses. Hospitals and surgical centers allowing such abortions also could lose their state licenses.

But those penalties may never come into play. The state health department says just 63 of the 6,881 abortions recorded in Missouri in 2009 were on fetuses at least 21 weeks old, and none were reported as being viable.

But we have to pass this bill anyway to um...promote American jobs and boost the economy!?

My favorites are the bills requiring women to view abortion procedures.

Apart from the Clockwork Orange aspect of it, you have to admit that Congress (or any legislature) admonishing people to consider the consequences of their decisions is just about the supreme irony in American politics.

My favorites are the bills requiring women to view abortion procedures.

It would be great if before Congress voted to declare war they had to view MASH field surgical procedures.

But then again, I'd settle for Congress having to declare war.

As much as I think abortion is a great moral evil - ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!

Stop nibbling on the edges and just ban the procedure outright or let every baby have a shot at being killed before it's born. My only stipulation if its the latter is that it has to be considered a medical procedure like removing an appendix or taking out a parasite (Dr. House??) from the body.

Done. Next?

Re: The 112th Congress - The first Orange-American to be elected Speaker

A close friend suffers from a number of bone tumors, including a nasty one that, I'm told, would have . . . uhh . . . bad consequences for a fully grown infant. She is anti-abortion, fwiw. Devoutly. But when she got pregnant, it was either a safe, early procedure or . . . . yeah, I'm not going to go there.

There are lots of people who end up having to make terrible decisions, and I'm willing to bet that most aren't happy about it. It's on issues like these where I'll entertain the notion of divine judgment, mainly because I'm 100% certain that no law we could ever write would treat all contingencies justly. And if the laws being proposed are any guide, it's not even close.

And that's about as much on abortion as I'll ever write on a message board

Not really Grasshopper. Currently no permission is necessary.

Oh, I thought we were making new policy here. Much quicker and more efficient than those critters in DC. :p

John Ensign has resigned...is Tom Coburn next?

This is why it should have remained at the state level. Each state could determine if they wanted to have it or not. People could then chose to the laws they lived under (or work to make changes within their state). Unfortunately, Roe v. Wade made this issue one size fits all.

Like that would work. Have one state have it legal and the bordering state have it illegal with a possible murder charge. That wouldn't cause any problems.

You don't know the history of abortion in this country, eh? Such was the state of this country prior to Roe v. Wade. Certainly not perfect, but I don't recall hearing of thousands of people being convicted of murder, as you insinuate.
